Title: SR or FXS in a minvan?
Post by: domingo3 on May 24, 2016, 11:38:06 PM
Has anyone put a Zero in a minivan?  That's our current family car, and it would be convenient to be able to haul it on rare occasions rather than getting a trailer.  Not that it would need to go upside down, but since there's no oil or gas, is there anything else in a zero that makes it so you have to worry about keeping it upright, as long as it's secure?

Not knowing any better, I always worry about storing anything with hydraulic disc brakes with the reservoir sitting lower than the calipers. I worry that air will somehow work toward the caliper.

When I did track days a lot as a grid manager, I had a fellow grid manager that always used his minivan as a motorcycle hauler.

Since he had a sport bike, it was not tall.  He had a Baxley Sport Chock  inside so that he could tie it down solo.  It worked for him.

The benefit of a minivan, is that its lower to load than a truck, the bike is hidden out of site and secure and you don't have to drive 55 MPH with a trailer (some states).

The only bad thing for him is that he would have to park both in the shade to let his gas bike cool off and driving back his AC was on overtime.

The will probably fit, but not a FX.

No way an fx will fit in a minivan. A hitch and hitch rack would work

In 2012 I loaded 2 zero X's, 4 people (3 adults and one 4 year old) + all the gear and food and toys in a Toyota Sienna. (see attached image)

I have also loaded S's in the Toyota.  I now have a Dodge Grand Caravan, with a hitch hauler similar to this http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200365149_200365149. (http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200365149_200365149.)  I use it to haul my MX.  I put the batteries in the van.  Before the hitch hauler I would load it in the van.  To get it to fit with the dirt tires, I had to compress the forks with a ratchet strap.
