Title: Quick question about Zero FX7.2 charging capability in Europe
Post by: princec on June 01, 2020, 03:49:17 PM
Just a quick question, honest...

What is the charging rate of the FX 7.2 in Europe with single phase 240V/13A supply (ie. through the kettle cord)? I see conflicting information about it as it seems the US version might be different.

A quick answer.

The charging rate is limited by the internal charger so it won’t be significant faster in Europe compared with the VS.

You may count roughly 10% loading in 1 hour. The last 20% takes more time due to balancing of the batteries, in total resulting in 9hours for full loading.

Biggest gain in europe is the 240v tension level. This means that whatever pc cord will be sufficient to charge as is’t requesting only 3A.

Best regards, jan

Charger is limited by wattage; higher wattage chargers are bigger physIcally.

The X platform has a 0.65kW onboard, the S platform has a 1.3kW, and the F platform a 3kW charger.

That means a standard 250V outlet usually can charge an SR/F at full speed, but the others are already limited by their smaller chargers.  250V charging is thought to be less stressful to the chargers, though, as it means they run cooler using less amps than the same wattage at 120V.

You can get off-board chargers supposedly to link together to charge faster, and of course the S and F platforms have Charge Tanks for their platform as well.

Thanks both, just checking... bit of a pain the FX can only take a fifth of what the kettle lead can take :/
