Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Insurance premiums
« on: January 14, 2021, 08:16:00 PM »
I filed a complaint with the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance.  Which, if effective, is only going to influence State Farm.

So if you get a weird number - welcome to the bleeding edge - and see what can be done to have them justify that number rather than just moving on.

State Farm does start with the advertised electric horsepower... and multiplies it by 5 - their justification is because of the torque involved in generating that horsepower to get the gasoline equivalence.

Might as well revitalize this thread, because it's another year later.

I chatted up (email annoyed) my local State Farm agency and found some interesting information.

Because Electric Motorcycles have no known 'CC' their pre-underwritting formula for "gasoline engine equivalent" involves some multiplication. (I feel perhaps too much multiplication)

My 2020 LiveWire is insured as a 6,300 cubic centimeters 525 horsepower ICE motorcycle.
A 2020 Zero SR/F would solve out to 6,600cc and 550 hp.

Needless to say I'm trying to find an avenue to get the underwriters to either cap or curve their formula.

I have not seen a LiveWire recognizably on the road here in Wisconsin. I did pull into a ChargePoint and the App indicated the previous vehicle was a LiveWire.

EV Stocks / Re: Rough "How to" Schwab account
« on: March 31, 2020, 06:59:24 PM »
Of intrest for forum purposes would do they send you the annual report.  I had one brokerage firm that did but they sent me stuff to sign and get notarized when they went to a third party clearing agency and I balked and went elsewhere.  I just realized those packages of the annual reports are no longer showing up.  Zero, BMW and KTM are private.  Do you get on line access to stuff if you own it?  More so than interested in buying.
I'll find out if they send an annual report, in a year I guess.
Nothing indicates I have on-line access to their stockholder reports.

Tried to buy Energetica.
Not available in Schwab application. Because it is Italian Exchange, need to have "Global Account" per website.
Called Schwab 3/9/20 to add Global account and they said stock was not available, even with "Global".  But they could make the stock available after some screening process that would take several days and I would get an email when available.
Called Schwab again 3/30/20 just to keep ball rolling and they said the stock was available if I called the Global line. (not in app, not in normal support)
Called Schwab Global Line
EMC.MI   Energetica Motor Company Milan

Trades in 500 share minimum
Markup 0.32% per share
Second Commission charge 0.075%
$100 per trade (up to $13,000 trade value then 0.75%)

Share Price US Dollars (at the time) $2.06

I balked - wasn't quite ready to make that big of a trade especially with such a heavy fee structure.

So it probably is not a law....

https://electrek.co/2020/03/20/cleveland-cyclewerks-us-built-65-mph-falcon-electric-motorcycle-unveiled/

The Falcon 01 can be restricted to “E-bike mode” with limits of 20 mph (32 km/h) top speed and 750W (1hp), or to “E-moped mode” with a top speed of 27 mph (43 km/h). It also features an unrestricted mode that takes full advantage of its 6kW motor with a 65 mph (105 km/h) top speed.

The Falcon BLK also sports the same restricted modes, but offers up to 12kW (16 hp) in unrestricted mode and a top speed of 85+ mph (137+ km/h).

Anybody is welcome to post a reference to the actual regulation on limiting the maximum speeds through custom settings.

(Many trucks have top speed regulators, one carrier I drove for limited to 57 mph. )

Back to the thread. I still want to set the MAX speed in custom settings to limit the top speed to any value.

I cannot find any regulation informing any limit. (If could set custom mode to "0" I'd take it as a theft deterrent (not prevention, just "deterrent")).

General Discussion / Re: Electric snowmobile
« on: March 19, 2020, 03:51:38 AM »

100km Range, less than 5% drop at -30C
62miles Range, less than 55 drop at -22F
If only southern Wisconsin could be counted on for enough snow, I'd join the line. Lucky Taiga plans an electric jet ski for $28k for pre-order.

It has to be possible because the 2019 Zero tour "Discover the Ride" featured Zero motorcycles with limited top speed allowing non-licensed riders a safe experience.

https://www.totalmotorcycle.com/zero-motorcycles-discover-the-ride-no-motorcycle-license-required/
New Rider Course – Ride Zero motorcycles that are governed to safe speeds on a controlled, indoor course and in an educational atmosphere.

https://motorcycleshows.com/content/discover-ride
New Rider Course in partnership with Zero Motorcycles
The New Rider Course gives non-licensed attendees the opportunity to ride a motorcycle for the first time and learn riding basics from expert instructors. The indoor demo course will host a fleet of speed-limited electric Zero Motorcycles to give participants the experience of riding a motorcycle in a safe and controlled environment. Zero Motorcycles have no transmission, feature ABS as standard equipment, and its zero emissions make an indoor experience on one of the most advanced motorcycles in the world a possibility. Instructors from Total Control Training will be on hand at each show to give instruction and guidance and gear will be provided by Cycle Gear, Shark Helmets, HJC and Shoei.

I really want to limit the top speed, to even below moped limits for novice riders to start learning.

EV Stocks / Rough "How to" Schwab account
« on: March 15, 2020, 08:46:41 PM »
Create Brokerage Account on https://www.schwab.com/public/schwab/client_home

Wait for a few days, and occasionally login, call, text chat and get called by Schwab during this process as they validated information.

Load the smartphone App if desired. It will be a fun distraction all day long.

FUND the account  (any attempts to fund the account during the validation process failed, it may work for others)  by linking to an external bank account. They will do  test deposits and withdraw which you validate the amounts of to confirm. (plenty of emails on the process).   THEN you can transfer money from the external bank account. Process takes a few days to complete (you cannot buy "penny stocks" until the transaction finishes, but may be able to buy others).

BUY some stock.

I bought:
Arcimoto "FUV" @$1.265
Borg Warner "BWA" @ $24.056

Pics and Vids / Re: Preparing for National Drive Electic Week

The solar charging station is at our local Credit Union (free for customers and members, but nobody has ever checked).

Plugshare location:  https://www.plugshare.com/location/182350

They do track the sun and they have either a 22.5 or a 30 kWh battery. So even stopping at night there is a good chance for some charge as there is no utility connection.   (Location also has some clipper creek stations I've never needed to try). I am not sure of the charge rate.

Envision Solar's EV-ARC (Electic Vehicle Autonomous Renewable Charger).

https://envisionsolar.com/products/ec-arc/

They are not cheap, about mid 5 figures. But are suited for locations where getting utility power would be costly or overly time consuming.

Watch this site for events near you and join in to raise awareness:  https://driveelectricweek.org/index.php
National Drive Electric Week, September 14-22, 2019, is a nationwide celebration to heighten awareness of today's widespread availability of plug-in vehicles and highlight the benefits of all-electric and plug-in hybrid-electric cars, trucks, motorcycles, and more. They are fun to drive, are less expensive and more convenient to fuel than gasoline vehicles, are better for the environment, promote local jobs, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Are you considering going electric? Come talk to owners who have successfully done so.

We already have 43 Zero Motorcycles Registered!   (2 Brammos pevid=21, 0 Lightnings pevid=55, 3 Energitica's pevid=91 & 92)
https://driveelectricweek.org/event-vehicle.php?year=2019&pevid=20

2018 was 98 Zeros and 2017 was 93!  This might be the year with more than 100 Zeros?

Not my posting - I am just sharing. Though I very likely had seen this bike in person.

https://milwaukee.craigslist.org/mcy/d/milwaukee-2009-brammo-enertia-electric/6952877119.html

2009 Brammo Enertia electric motorcycle

4042 miles
This is a very rare bike. Only 2 in the world were made that came with factory Saddlemen side luggage bags
This first one was for the owner of the company and this was the 2nd. No other Brammo ever came off the production line this way
Truly a collector's item
Runs and drives perfectly
Comes with charging cable
This is a full electric vehicle. No gas, no oil, no exhaust, no clutch.
Super torquey. Makes you giggle like a little kid again!
Price is firm
