Tech Help / A puddle, some rain and some problems
« on: June 20, 2017, 05:57:46 PM »
I went through a puddle on a trail on my way home from work yesterday  I call it a puddle but it had a deep rut which was unavoidable and unexpected, I noticed that the warning light was rapidly flashing about 5 times in one second but everything worked normally, when I got home I rinsed the rims and brakes off then I wiped the seat down and a few areas with a damp cloth, the blinking persisted so I air blew the fast  charge plug and any possible area around it, still blinking, I then used contact cleaner, still blinking, I then ran my leaf blower (slow speed) for an extended time, still blinking, so I left it in the sun, then a quick hard rain hit, now I have it in the garage with a fan pointed on it because after the rain the 12 volt side stayed powered up, eventually the warning blinking stopped but it's been 24hrs with the 12 v side powered, I've pulled all the fuses, blown out the ignition switch and any areas, any constructive ideas would be appreciated, ps keying the bike on and off does open and close the contactor

Buy Sell Trade / 2 Meanwell rsp 3000-48 for sale
« on: March 11, 2017, 06:50:26 PM »
Hi guys, I have two meanwell rsp 3000-48 power supplies for sale, I have used them for charging my 2013s (with upgraded 13kw battery) unfortunately my knowledge of quality diodes (I bought them on eBay) didn't take the constant current and slowly overheated, the power supplies are fine and can still put out full current, but they have a bit of a smell to them, I will include the military ammo box I used to water proof them, I have since gone with the ThunderStruck Motors chargers because of ruggedness and waterproofing, I will include anything else I have for the setup, instructions on how to build them are in the forum and possibly the wiki, they will charge you up to 114v and then let the onboard take over, I am asking $800 OBO (CAD about $600 USD) for the pair, shipping is from Toronto Ontario Canada

Tech Help / Advice for a budding electronic engineer
« on: December 01, 2015, 06:36:30 PM »
Well I'm being a bit dramatic, I'm a licensed mechanic with 20 years in the trade, I feel like I'm falling behind in understanding the electronic workings of the things that I repair (the trade has moved from repairing problems to replacement of components) I want to have a better understanding and am looking for a book to amuse me, I read in a post a while ago about a book that helps in understanding the electronic workings, can anyone recommend some reading material?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Charging options/theories
« on: August 21, 2015, 08:02:11 AM »
i just bought spenny818's bike and have it up at my solar powered cottage, I plugged it in to the 2500 watt inverter and voila it was charging - but at a rate that taxed my system after the sun went down, I won't be riding it much up here but do spend a few weeks in the summer, I've always brought my bikes up for vacations but am not putting on more than 80 km max every day or two, the whole point is that while I have full sun I think it would be better for the system to charge at say an fx speed (650 watts) so as to replace the small amount I use during the early morning rides, this leads me to the idea to buy an fx charger or do a meanwelll rsp system at a lower watt/amperage , any thoughts, I will be getting j1772 to charge at my work but want a simple & small charger to do the cottage charge once or twice a year. P.S. I spooked a family of deer , just driving down my driveway! This is one of the best things about a zero!

General Discussion / I'm electric for the second time!
« on: August 20, 2015, 04:43:38 PM »
Well despite the lack of j1772 charging I have made the plunge! I've bought spenny818's 2013 zero s , the price and condition of the bike were too good to pass on, I'm having it safety inspected today and am taking it up to the cottage to charge it from my solar system, first upgrade over the winter will be to add j1772 and faster charging, thanks to the forum for all the insight

General Discussion / Looking to test ride in Florida
« on: November 16, 2014, 05:19:18 AM »
I'm not looking for a freebie or to thrash somebody's machine. I just really would like to test ride an electric motorcycle , I'm in Florida for a week and would love to ride a zero or brammo, canada doesn't have a lot of dealers that I can just check out and try the bikes, I have a good riding history and am classed as a young old rider! Daily ride is a weestrom (650 vstrom) and   if anyone has info or a rental place in mind that I can try please pm me , I'm a huge stalker and watcher on this forum and really need to see what the hype is about, ps I'm staying in the Indian rocks /Clearwater area till the 22 of November , any help getting a leg over an electric is appreciated
