I'm a little pissed at my dealer -- I ordered my Zero S ZF6 with the mini-cowl and windscreen, but they delivered it without one, told me that the windscreen was on "back order," then shipped me the screen a week later to install myself (I did not want to ride the bike 30 miles back to the dealer) -- and charged me for the shipping!
Anyway, first ride with the screen today, and it makes a big difference both in riding comfort at higher speeds and it seems to improve range as well. I used only one bar to get the 15 miles to work today -- admittedly, it was heavy traffic, a lot of stop and go, and I never got over 55. Usually, it is 2 or 3 bars.
Anyway, looks like you can save a bundle by buying the screen without the Zero logo -- this looks like the same screen:

$99 for the screen plus $45 for the mounting kit rather than the $280 Zero is charging.

I also got the summer screen, just today. For me it's a "Winter Screen" :D. Hopefully it'll take some of the chill of my chest on my 30 degree morning commute this fall!! :o
There has been discussion about windscreens improving range on this forum before. I just don't see it. I can't imagine, with range being so all-important to e-moto's, that if a $10 plastic windscreen really did improve range 5% then Zero would make it standard on all bikes.

My $99 Zero (Slipstreamer SpitFire) windshield sure seems to increase my range somewhat compared to when I take if off. At least that is the way it seems by the "seat of my pants" testing. ???

Wish I had seen your post sooner, kcoplan! Would have been nice to spend $150 instead of $400!
I got the Front Cowl & Mini Screen for my ZF9 and it definitely has increased my comfort level while riding on highways. I think there is a slight increase in range, though I have not empirical data to support that claim.
However, Riding in an aerodynamic position behind the mini screen shows a measurable difference. My test was to hold the throttle where my speed was steady on the highway, then duck behind the screen without changing the throttle position. In the aerodynamic position I was gaining speed without changing the throttle position. So the mini screen can definitely pay benefits if you don't mind riding low.

Thanks kcoplan, I bought the windscreen and mounting kit and it is, as far as I can tell, the same one that Zero sells. It did seem to help with milage, and it did help stop the wind from trying to rip me off the bike on the freeway.
I am selling the screen though. I just don't like the way bikes look with a windscreen. I can't seem to get past it.

Just bought one myself, at first glance my power use dropped by half!
I'll put an analyzer on the bike, and I post some numbers here when I have them.

It seem to be enormous improovement?
My actual average energy consumption is about 60Wh/km average
Minimum was about 45Wh/mile anc max was 105Wh/mile.
I noticed a little more confort with the summer screen on my ZF9 but not really feel that my energy consumption increased.
Since i have the Cycle analyst i can test LIVE what make the power to decrease while riding and i tried changing my position and also modify the angle of teh screen and i can not say it make a significant difference
ex: to drive at 100km/h i need about 10kW , 120km/h i need about 16kW and 140kmh i need 22kW MAx kW i have seen is 29kW
You will really love to see the power usage LIVE !
