I have a 2014 SR that i use for commuting. I put about 10,000 miles on it and it had been great. In the beginning, i had a contactor error that got fixed very quickly by Hollywood electrics and a throttle problem that was also fixed very quick. Also a software upgrade cured a few minor issues that didn't stop me from riding. This was all early in my ownership. After that, the bike has been very solid. I've come to depend on my zero for commuting and cannot think of any other bike that combines practicality, reliability, comfort, convenience and fun as well as the SR for commuting.

if thats above your budget, I have heard great reviews on the Kawasaki Concours forum about Spencer's Seat mod. He modifies a stock seat (I believe... ) with foam an gel for about $50 to $75. I haven't tried it personally but from what I read, it does work well..

$400 is what Baldwin charged to do my seat. Personally (custom seats are a VERY personal opinion... what feels great to one person may not be the same for someone else) I find Baldwin seats to be the most comfortable. I have tried Corbin, Sargent and Bill Mayer seats on a variety of bikes over the years. This is the only seat I bought that I bought again. I have a Blawdin on my Concours 1400 and my Zero. I got the seat for my '13 Zero S and I transfered it to my '14 SR when i got it.

The low beam is better than the stock halogen. The spread seems to be about the same but the light output is better. I use my Zero as a commuter so I am not certain about back winding road performance but for freeways and city streets it's great. I ride almost every day. High beam does not have as big of a difference I see in terms of light output as the difference that I see on the halogens. It seems to be the same output but the light's reach is longer. But since low beam is so much better than stock, I think its fine.

I purchased the led headlight bulb from Electrical Connection. It's 1800 lumens so it is plenty bright. Here is a link http://www.electricalconnection.com/other-lighting/led-hl-h4.htm

It has a ballast like the hids but it is very small and a fan that mounts behind the bulb. Easy install and fit no problem.

Works well. However,I purchased it a long time ago. Nowadays, eBay has fan less ones and even ones where the ballast is mounted on the bulb itself so install is even easier. The eBay ones boast even higher lumens and at a much cheaper price than what electrical connection charges.

Agree about the light colors. I had a 13s before the SR and it was yellow. I loved the bike in yellow. When I got the SR, the red wasn't as good looking. I almost did yellow bodywork. When I found out I could get the police white bodywork I decided to do that. It turned out better than I thought. Usually, I am a black bike fan but not on the zero.

Also, not pictured.. I'll get a picture up of it soon... I have the givi trekker rear case. I think zero offered it mostly for the DS but I think it looks better than the standard roundish cases that most bikes have. Sportier... Of course, I cannot fit a helmet it it but I usually take my helmet with me.

Here is my Zero SR in white. This is the oem white bodywork that Zero uses on their police bikes. I think the white on the Sr looks stunning!

Also pictured is my Tire Watch tpms. I like The Tire Watch system for my Zero because it is simple and self contained. It does not need to be wired to the bike to get power. Also, the pressure sensors installed on the wheels come with 90' valve stems.

Here is my custom Baldwin Saddle. Its a stock zero seat that had been modified by Baldwin. Baldwin uses memory foam and gel. I love the ostrich finish. You can specify the vinyl style or leather and stitching color.

The headlight has an led bulb. Nice and bright and draws much less amps then a halogen bulb.

My 2008 Harley Nightster has a rear wheel bearing failure at 11,000 miles... went unnoticed (damn thing is so loud and vibrates). Didn't appear till the wheel seized up. Damage was so bad it cracked the hub. New hub, wheel lacing and bearings adds up $$ really quick.

just saying... its not just the Zeros

When I bought my 13s, I got Harlan at Hollywood electrics to swap them out for '12 mirrors. He had a whole box of them at the time... apparently many people swapped out the 12 mirrors for some aftermarket mirrors. When I bought my 14 SR, I put my 12 mirrors on it.

the 12 mirrors are about the same length as the 13+ mirrors with the mirrors upside down. For me, and because I lane split to commute, I take my 12 mirrors and orient them upside down for even more clearance.

My buddy with a 13s actually removed his mirrors and swapped them... left mirror on right stalk and vise versa. He says that his mirrors (which are oriented right side up) have the same lenght as rotating the mirrors upside down.

Talk to Harlan at Hollywood Electrics about suspension. I heard he was working on some options.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Zero Ignition Key
« on: May 11, 2014, 06:45:22 AM »
Not aftermarket.
But the keyless system on my Kawasaki Concours does. The method they use is to keep a key in the ignition lock. When the keyless fob is not nearby, the key will not turn or will not remove. When the keyless fob is present, you can turn the key to the on position or the position that allows the key to be removed in order to use it for the fuel tank or saddle bags.

Personally, I would not feel comfortable leaving any bike out without a functional steering lock. It's probably a false sense of security.... But still...

I tried to read up on that keyless system. It seems it that it does not allow you to use the steering lock. Unless you use your key to lock it which defeats the purpose. So to me, that would be a deal breaker. Correct me if I am wrong on that point.

Also, does the Zero have an always on 12 volt source? I assume that the system would need this on order to function.

I have a keyless OEM system on my Kawaski Concours. I really do like it. It has a key that remains locked on the bike that you push and turn in order to unlock the steering.

The ignition switch that is on the Zero is a Zadi Q933, I believe. It is an industry standard key and ignition switch that many manufacturers use on their bikes. Triumph, Aprilia, BMW, Buell, MZ, Yamaha Honda all use the same lock set on many of their bikes.

You cannot program eco mode anymore, it is a fixed setting on the 2014. The 2013 had the programmable mode on eco.  Sport was fixed. But on the 14, the only programmable mode is custom. The app was designed for the 2013 bike so that is why it is labeled like that. I assume a future update to the app will correct that....
