Buy Sell Trade / Stolen 2013 Zero DS
« on: May 26, 2017, 05:52:06 PM »
!!Stolen!
Attention Austin people. My 2013 Zero DS motorcycle (actually my entire white 6x12 enclosed trailer) was stolen from the storage facility in Del Valle. I have insurance, but still sucks. If anyone hears anything. What I will miss even more was that magical Chris Birch 6'0 surfboard. Sure I hadn't used it in years, but I loved it. (among other 1 off things I just couldn't part with over the years). Not the end of the world, just wanted to get the word out.. thanks. (feel free to repost as I really don't know many people in Austin).

Hot damn.. Looks like us 2013'ers are getting new batteries.  Here's a snip of the email I got about an hour ago:
"Zero Motorcycles is passionate about the quality and integrity of our motorcycles. We continually monitor their performance and conduct ongoing durability tests. As a result of our ongoing testing and current field quality data, we have concluded that monolith power pack performance in certain 2013 Zero S and Zero DS motorcycles is declining more rapidly than we believe is acceptable as a result of a power pack supplier manufacturing defect. As a result, we are announcing the 2013 Zero SDS Monolith Replacement Campaign whereby we will replace the ZF11.4 and ZF8.5 monoliths in affected motorcycles with new ZF12.5 and ZF9.4 monoliths at no charge to the owner."

Has anyone come up with a way to transfer juice from an off grid system to the bike?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Order plastics online?
« on: December 29, 2015, 02:01:51 AM »
Does anyone know where I can order some replacement plastics and have them shipped?  i don't stay in one place long (day/days) so ordering at a dealership is a pain.

Parts, Mods And Hacks / A good start for cheap side cases

If that link works, it looks promising.  I recently ordered some zero racks to the tune of $400.  I don't think they've shipped out yet, so I think I'll see about canceling that order.  Seems I (or a proper fabricator) could create the proper mounting arms and have a really reasonably priced set of side cases. The cooler stuff all requires "cam" style mounts instead of the older 3 point system. (Which no one offers for th Zero as far as I know)

Parts, Mods And Hacks / Charging while mounted on a motorcycle carrier?
« on: November 26, 2015, 09:24:02 PM »
I posted this up on the RV forum, but got a lack luster reponse. It seems to me, there should be a way to charge the bike from the van's alternator while under way.  I travel around the country from time to time and often "boondocking".  I'd like to figure out a way to arrive at a place with a fully charged bike to explore, then mount it back up and head out on the road again. A typical driving day for me is about 6-8 hrs.
Seems to me the "easy" way would be to hook up an inverted to the house bank of batteries and run a cord back to the bike.  DC-AC-DC isn't ideal, but all I can figure out... If that would even work.
I suppose no one has tried this set up?

Little more back ground:

Is it normal to bounce from 2mv to 40mv to 30mv, back to 3mv in a matter of seconds?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Hitch mount bike carrier?
« on: November 17, 2015, 03:37:36 AM »
I have a harbor frieght and tool hitch mount bike carrier. It was "cheap" and served its purpose for the old crappy bike. Now that I have the new hotness, I don't want to scratch it. Does anyone recommend a particular brand mounting strap and or hitch mount carrier?
Thanks!

General Discussion / Riding gear?
« on: November 15, 2015, 02:52:10 AM »
I'm new to "winter" type riding. Living in Florida most of my life, there was only like 3 weeks of "winter".  Oddly enough, Texas actually freezes over sometimes. I'm in the market for a new jacket to go with my new DS. What jackets are people wearing this winter?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / DS Front fender bouncy
« on: November 08, 2015, 06:02:42 AM »
I did a search for this, but only saw people wanted to change the fender to something else and 1 wheel out of true. Maybe that's my issue, but it's a new bike (40miles).  Do people reinforce the fender or is the spoke wheel really out of true from the factory?

Parts, Mods And Hacks / Charging solution for $2k or less?
« on: November 06, 2015, 12:08:07 AM »
So, what's the best I can build for the less than $2k price point (2013 Zero DS 11.4)?  I'm ok with making my own cables and not having official support for that charging solution.  My Bike does have 1 year of warranty left though.. so if I take it in for warranty work, I should be able to remove my custom charging solution.

I'm thinking givi side bags (regardless of charging solutions I want bags.. so I'm not counting this in the $2k).  I don't mind drilling a hole and using grommets for cable passage.  I'm ok with fair weather only (open luggage lids to vent heat).  I'd like a J1772 connection.  I saw a video where someone did this type of solution without the givi containers..  is that still the best way to go?  Due to price I might only get 1 Elcon2500 though.. would be nice to have the other side luggage for my own uses anyway.
thanks all!

(I looked at the soon to be released Diginow fast charging solution, but at $3k.. it's just too much.. I'd rather hit 1500 or less to be honest.. the bike itself is only worth so much these days)
