General Discussion / Adaptive Cruise Control and 10" screens
« on: December 13, 2022, 05:55:35 AM »
In a discussion about cruise control buttons, Hans2183 said:

> Sorry I'm not a cruise control user 😂. At least not without radar. And yes I realise BMW has that on the RT and K1600. But those aren't electric.

It seems unfair that some of the fossil motorcycles have 10" screens and adaptive cruise control but not any of our electric ones.

Energica / AV turbocord 240?

Anyone tried one of these?  Seem pretty light for carrying around, compared to the EVSE I got with my SS9+

Electric Motorcycle Events / No San Francisco Scenic ride for January
« on: January 08, 2021, 10:43:52 AM »
Update: no ride for January.

Was:

GnarlMarx, are you scheduling one for the second Saturday?  If not, I'll schedule one for *4th* Saturday, which is more convenient for me.

6
Scenic route like GnarlMarx's in November, but ending up on Treasure Island with great views of SF skyline and Eastern Span of the Bay Bridge.

More details to come.  I'll ride the Zero this time.

It'll be similar to the one GnarlMarx organized in November, Zero FX led the pack, so you don't need a huge PowerTank or Energica Plus battery to do this.

Greetings Bay-Area electric motorcycle riders! It's time for the second Second Saturday San Francisco Circuit, an electric motorcycle group ride.

We'll meet by the charge point in the big parking lot south of China Basin park next to Pier 50 in San Francisco. Meetup at 10:30 am, kickstands up at 10:50.

The route is a big lap around the city inspired by the "butterlap" beloved by SF cyclists. We'll loop around the city going up along the embarcadero, along the marina green into the presidio, then we'll stop at the Battery East Vista (perfect, right?) to decide if we want to tack on a trip across the Golden Gate to headlands twisties and out to point bonita (depending on fog and group feeling about the toll), then head back through land's end, down the coast by the beach, and back across the city through the park.

We'll shoot to continue this on subsequent second Saturdays of the month moving forward--in case you are interested, but can't make it to this one.

Energica owners will ride from Energica USA HQ in Redwood City.

Zero owners, coming from the South, meet at Zero factory?

Meet at Alice's at 11 (to beat the lunch rush).

Some will ride spiritedly, some will ride more relaxedly.  "I'll try to keep up" verboten.

Inspired by Phil's Energica demo ride:

Organized group events are prohibited, and restaurants are closed till "at least" April 7.

Does not prevent individual riders from riding that route, or any other route, that day, or any other day.  At least how I interpret 10 a iii of the order:

"To engage in outdoor activity, provided the individuals comply with
Social Distancing Requirements as defined in this Section, such as, by way of example and without limitation, walking, hiking, or running."

Someone said, and I agree:

"what we do is generally outdoor activity, not traveling.  "

But if you are out riding, be *extra safe*, since hospitals may be overwhelmed and blood donations are down.

General Discussion / Distance comparison spreadsheet (non-aero)

Comparing road-trip capabilities of the rapid-charging electric motorcycles: Energica, LiveWire,
Zero SR/f Premium 6kW and 12kW, and Zero SR/DSR with aftermarket, as well as BMW's and
Johammer's offerings.

At high speed, of course, a full Vetter Challenge aero shell will of course drop energy use in about half.
Craig Vetter's teardrop shell is designed for 90 MPH windspeed (60 MPH with a 30 MPH headwind).

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Salvage and used parts, 2013+
« on: November 14, 2019, 05:50:13 AM »
This thread is for people who want to post or find used and salvage parts for Zero motorcycles, 2013+.  Others may ignore.

For example, this 2016 DSR, looks like a custom seat, listed as a 13.0, but missing battery and drivetrain AFAICT:

Using lennart's arduino code as a guide, I successfully controlled a pair of the 3.3kw elcon/TC chargers to charge my 2014 Zero SR a couple of times.

Very rough code:

i2c Touch Hat is also from waveshare, and their example "python" code doesn't work right (throws a too many open files exception after a few minutes, and it's got an ugly binary blob anyway) so I adapted some generic i2c and read the touch with pure python instead.

Since it doesn't have a display yet, I start the code and control the charge level by connecting to the Pi Zero W with a laptop.

I intend to add a display and then clean up the code and then publish on github, but if anyone else wants to try it, I'd be happy to collaborate.

Tony

Lost of folks there. Last year I got to chat with Zero employees, Harlan, got to see the Grom conversion, the ATV with the Zero drivetrain, the Zeros from the Icon vlogger shootout, even if you don't go out on the track, it's fun.

General Discussion / Locating charging- what it should be like

British Coumbia takes the lead:

Lots of charging available, most of it *free* due to abundant hydroelectric power availability, easy to find, good visualization.

If you know of other juristictions or sites doing it right, add them to this thread.
