If someone is willing to go 25 mph for the entire trip, an e-bike becomes a practical alternative. If you run out of battery, you can just pedal home too. Wouldn't work for the freeway of course or even speeds much above 25 mph, and you might arrive at work sweaty. Better exercise though.
