Having owned 2 Zeros since 2015, this has never been a concern whilst riding, charging, or ever! I’ve never felt that the batteries were ever too hot. Enjoy your bike!

+1, on everything.

Excellent write-up!  Isn't it fun re-designing stuff you never should've had to?  :)  Great find on the thick front sprockets, and I didn't realize Supersprox did custom stuff which is good to know.

EXCELLENT! Thanks very much!  I right-clicked on the page and saved it as an .htm file, works fine.

+1 on Buchanan's - they're excellent, and might have Zero FX dimensions on file now since we've been sending them samples. And fwiw - I've replaced a front and rear spoke on my '14 FX with the wheels on the bike (maybe I just got lucky).

+1 on AF1, they should be able to help you.  I have these part numbers:

2014 FX: F inside spoke 23-04843, F outside spoke 23-04844, R inside spoke 23-04848, R outside spoke 23-04849

2016 FX: F inside spoke 23-08049, F outside spoke 23-08050, R inside spoke 23-08051, R outside spoke 23-08052

You'll have to ask AF1 about the 2015, I believe it uses one of these spoke sets but I don't know which.

If you set up the trip odometers A & B, do they work?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Torque vs weight?
« on: May 13, 2022, 07:47:55 AM »
One of my bikes has the single battery up front (only for street), the other in back (mainly for dirt).  I don't think I could really ride the dirt bike any other way, the front would just seem too heavy (and it would undo all my efforts to make the front end lighter-feeling).  The street bike handles fine with the front battery, and probably would with the battery in back too.

My FX was almost a different bike in the dirt with one or two batteries.  With one, torque was the same as two up to about 30-35 mph but it accelerated faster (less weight), hooked up better (weight farther back), and wheelspin was limited (less hp).  The opposite was true with two batteries, though obviously it was much faster over 30 mph with greatly increased range.  I almost never used two.

I've got an old Android for this purpose, they are really cheap and you don't need a flagship model for the app.

+1 - I do too (Samsung S4). I was unable to get the iPhone app version working in 2016. The 1.2.8 Zero apk file is available below:

Everything fails, eventually.  Just sharing my actual experience, and $.02.

I would however like to hear about other people's experience with the last item on the list: "Drive Motor: Commissioning and Timing".

I had my motor commissioned at 5,548 mostly-WOT-dirt miles, hoping to resolve a surging problem. It was a waste of time and money for me. According to the invoice, "the offset was 50.0, after doing this the offset has been at 49.56, 2 times in a row" - i.e., negligible.  If the encoder etc. had no issues after many thousands of shock events, I doubt it would have problems requiring service from normal street usage.

I cant take it anywhere for a second opinion

Well, there is, but I'd call first - Hollywood Electrics in LA, IMO the best Zero dealer ever by far. (323) 654-8271, Harlan or Carl.  In 2019 I was planning on a motor/battery upgrade and wanted to check with them first, I was very glad I did.  Even if you stay with your current dealer they may still be able to help, but if it was my bike & I lived in SF it would already be up there.  :)

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: wheelie practice bike (2014 FX)

Your CZ sounds like my friend's low-compression MT250 - the front wheel feels nailed to the ground. My practice bike only simulates motorcycles with enough power to lift the front end, as bar yanking & weight shifting have a lot less effect when the bike and rear suspension don't move.

When I was a kid there was a guy down the street who could wheelie the length of our street (@ 300') - always amazed me.  I'm just hoping to get rid of my fear of looping out (which I've never done) and maybe ride a decent wheelie now and then - we'll see.  The SB Moto unit looks pretty cool, if adjusted right it seems impossible to loop.
