Energica / Re: ENERGICA sales numbers in 2017?
« on: February 06, 2018, 10:31:12 AM »
Demoni, am I correct in assuming the range of 80-89 miles at 75 mph is in Standard mode? What is the range in Sport mode at that speed? I'm guessing around 45 miles.

The delivery of my new Ego is on target for tomorrow morning (02/06/2018), so by tomorrow evening I'll have some data to report after my commute.

General Discussion / Re: Do you have a favorite helmet?
« on: February 04, 2018, 10:27:59 AM »
I've been wearing Shoei RF series helmets since 2011, when I first started riding. They are a good fit for my head shape. The new 2017 RF 1200 has many improvements over the earlier models: reduced wind noise, less fogging with the inner face shield insert, even with the visor closed and easily removable padding to get the helmet off after an accident. I always replace my helmet every five years. I have no need for bluetooth for tunes because I want to hear whats going on with the bike and the traffic (very light where I ride) as most of my riding is at 70 to 75 mph. I prefer having an ear bud from my Escort Solo S3 radar detector in one ear and a Heroes ear plug in the other. These helmets aren't "cheap" (but also not the most pricey). I tend to buy new ones during the black Friday sales as they are rarely offered at a discount.

Richard230:

Even though they are listed on the options as a N/C item, I think those bikes have the standard cast aluminum wheels, not the OZ wheels. It showed the same thing on my spec sheet, but it was obvious to me when I saw the photos of my bike as it was being loaded for transport, that it does not have the OZ wheels. Go to the web site and configure a bike with the OZ wheels to see the difference and let me know if I'm correct about this.

I pointed this out to my sells rep, but told him it made no diff to me.

That is what Energica told me. Again, I'm pretty sure it's not in sport mode, but standard mode, with a top speed of 80 mph. I'll report back next week. The bike will be here Tuesday morning. My round-trip commute is ~56 miles, so I'll have some head room, if it's less than 80 miles to a charge. There is a charging station near where I work!!

Yep, That scooter went to someone near Austin, over 400 miles from me! CalMoto, both in the Bay area, are the only Energica dealers in the USA!! The Zero dealer in Austin I contacted when I was looking at them is "considering" becoming an Energica dealer. I couldn't resist buying the Ego, as it ended up being less expensive than the 2018 top of the line Zero, even after I added several options. You have to admit, it was very "gutsie" of me to spend that kind of dough on a bike that I never even test road, but my commute is not anything like a commute in ANY big city.

Yep! It's CalMoto. Tell Derek I said, "Ciao, baby!"

Ciao, Chris! The 7th new 2017 Ego sold in the US (according to the dealer) and the 1st one in Texas, is being delivered to me on Tuesday, 6 February 2018. I bought it from CalMoto without ever seeing it in the flesh. As a longtime Alfa Romeo owner (5 since 1973 - with an '83 GTV6 purchased new showing 469k (s)miles on the clock still in my scudderia), Needless to say, I'm attracted to Italian products. I'm in Far West Texas with a weekday commute on a lightly traveled highway through very scenic territory. I've been granted an exception on the warranty, so a local mechanic can provide me service, yet Energica has yet to agree to provide a service manual or any remote training to my mechanic. I will be commuting about 1,000 miles a month, so regular service is an imperative (~56 miles a weekday, round-trip). My electricity is 100% green, so no petroleum, coal or nukes will be used by the bike, except for the required quarts of synthetic Dextron to cool the batteries. I think I bought the last black screw set, which I will be installing on the bike next weekend, to complete the "black-out" of this gorgeous motorcycle. I will be trying to get articles published in area newspapers about the Ego, and maybe even one in Texas Monthly magazine, if it is of interest to the editors. I've only been riding since 2011, but have logged over 70k miles on a pair of 2006 Ninja 650Rs, mostly on the commute. Grazie!!

According to Energica I will have a range of 80 to 89 miles at 75 mph. I assume that is in Standard mode. Here's a photo of my bike as it about to be loaded up for shipment to Texas.

The US dealer in California told me that 6 Egos were sold in the USA in 2017. I just purchase the 7th Ego from that dealer and it should be delivered in the next week or less. I'm not worried about the company, because the parent company has been a supplier to Formula One for many years as well as to the aerospace and 3D printing industry. Maybe I'm biased as I've been an Alfa Romeo owner since 1973 (5 total) and still have the 1983 GTV6 I bought new showing 469k (s)miles on the clock. You can tell I'm totally crazy as I live about 2,000 miles from the dealer, but Energica has given me an exception on my warranty, regardless of who works on the Ego. If only they'd provide my mechanic with a service manual. In any case, I'm confident the dealer's service manager would guide my mechanic if need be. I expect to be commuting about 1,000 miles a month on the Ego (~56 miles round trip), except in December and January when temps will be below 20 degrees F in which case the bike will only have 80% of the power available.
