Title: Models limited to 11 kW
Post by: Specta on September 24, 2017, 09:27:17 PM
Hello,
In France you can buy special versions of the S, DS, FX and FXS limited to 11kW of continuous power (the peak power does not change).
Due to the reglementation you can ride these bikes with only a car driving licence (as 125cm3 bikes).
Therefore it is easier to find second hand 11 kW models than classic ones as I want to buy a Zero.

I read that Zero only changed the temperature limit from 100°C to 75°C before the motor goes in overheated mode to restrict the continuous power.

Is the temperature sensor a thermistor ? Where is it located ?
Is it possible to add a resistor in serie with the temperature sensor to put back the limit to 100°C ?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

IIRC it is just dialed down in the firmware and a dealer with a service laptop should be able to free all the horses.

They precised the Main Bike Board and the wirings are different to prevent reprogrammation, unfortunately.

Bonjour Specta,

There is another difference, afaik. The max speed is limited to 130km/h.

The only difference is the 130kph limit.

About the temp, system display an alert from 75 degres, but start to lower power only at more than 100 degrees (107-110 degrees approx).

I will probably have one to sell soon, near paris, partially unlocked (until 157kph gps). Contact me in pm if you are interrested.

The power decreases from 75°C at 11kW before decreasing even more when reaching 100°C.

I am sure some of you know very well the hardware of those bikes. Any clue on the motor temperature sensor type ?

At least on2016 version, i m sure there is no power reduction from 75 deg.

I run frequently on track with gps tracker. No power reduction before going to 110 deg.

On my FXS 2016 11kW, I am sure there is a power reduction starting at 75°C. I have experienced the power loss, and at the same time strange lines appear in the logs of my bike. See attached file

Hi to all 11kW ZERO users,

Did anyone succed into finding a way to restore (fully or partially) the missing power of our S (or DS) models ?
As my Zero reseller told me he was updating the firmware of a 11kW S model, a few time ago and discovered that the new programming achieved let arose the max speed to a 155km/h.

Of course the owner of this Zero is still with the same firmware :) .... are you this lucky owner, granpa ?  ;)

For me , and the other owners of a 11kw type, we have to discover the level 2 or level 3 PWD to get the rights to write some bytes inside the MBB through the DIY USB to RS232 cable (@TTL level on pins 8 and 9 of the ODB2 connector).
Anyone to help ??
Another more risky solution is to play with the Sevcon unit through the IXXAT CAN/USB dongle and the DVT 1.03C software (i finally found it).

Bikes are authorized in Europe for 11 kw use only if the system that limits power is "hard to change". So don't expect any easy solution - probably more a mix of changing expensive parts and upgrading the software. Unless of course Zero's system has a bug which is always possible.
