Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2014 models battery upgrade ?
« on: October 26, 2021, 12:20:20 AM »
Folks,

My 2014 DS (32,000mi) is starting to show the battery degradation beyond the threshold of usability. Couldn't make a 50mi trip at the average 40mph the other day. That got me wondering, has anyone tried having the battery pack upgraded on those older models through Zero ? Is there any long-term support available for them ? Thanks!

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / DC-DC converters for level3 charging

Came across this :

https://www.tame-power.com/en/dc-dc-power-converter/isolated-dcdc-converter-7kw-80-150v-reversible

Looks like it could work, but would it be more practical than high power AC options ?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 3D printed parts discussion

Folks,

So I see a thread about fender eliminator, but who else is 3D printing stuff for their Zero and what kind ? I will be doing the tank bag replacement within upcoming weeks, will share it then.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Solar charging
« on: March 01, 2017, 02:04:39 AM »
I know this has been discussed before, and dismissed as a valid approach, but there are some interesting improvements regarding solar panel tech.

This is currently on sale for $149 after coupon : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DXYNGA0/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=AY5XLL1NQPR7O&tag=tbdirect-20&ascsubtag=0206f078-6967-44ac-93c2-1cef42661020

It is 100W with dimensions of 43.3 x 22.4 x 0.1 inches and slightly under 5lb of weight. Let's say one connects 9 of these in series and then
two of these in parallel for combined 108V and 1800W. Considering that would be DC, and can go straight into the battery via AUX port,
would it get us close to 4 hours of charge time ? Would additional charge controller be needed, or BMS can take care of that ?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Lost all regen
« on: October 24, 2016, 11:16:07 PM »
This morning I started riding in Sport mode, but then switched to Custom when I hit some traffic. My custom is configured to do maximum regen,
so I don't have to use brakes much while crawling through jams. Well, this time the bike would just cruise in neutral, and wouldn't slow down.
I figured maybe settings somehow got reset, and switched to Eco. Well, it appeared that Eco isn't doing any regen either. While at the traffic
light I switched "ignition" off/on, but still no regen.

This hasn't happened before. I know dealer upgraded my firmware just a week ago, so perhaps it's a fallout from that. Anyone had a similar issue before ?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2.5 years... past warranty, right ?
« on: September 29, 2016, 09:43:56 AM »
Just happened. Came home, plugged my '14 DS to charge, went upstairs to change. Came down - lights are out. Went into garage to check the breaker - smell of burned plastic... Sure enough, onboard charger went out.

2.5 years, 18 thousand miles. Standard warranty seems to be 2 years only. Anyone replaced it via a dealer out of pocket ? What's the damage like ?

July 2017 update: replacement charger burned out, just 8 months after replacement.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Belt part number
« on: May 21, 2016, 09:22:47 PM »
Guys, I can't seem to figure out what are the belt specs on 2014 DS, and as the result can't find a replacement.
All the discussions here seem to deal with troubleshooting questions, but nobody mentions the replacement
belt makes/models :) Any idea ?

My belt started ratcheting after a bit under 16K miles on it, and needs an immediate replacement :(

Thanks!

Had a long cruise yesterday, putting 80 miles total. Mostly highway, going 55mph. Now as I was getting close to home,
charge was approaching 15%, and I figured once it gets to 10%, I will drop the speed to make it through the last
few miles. But as the bike crossed over to 14%, it itself started losing power, so that I couldn't accelerate above
40MPH even if I wanted (in any mode, including sport). Even worse, as the charge got down to 10%, the bike just
wouldn't go above 25MPH, and with the slight uphill it would barely crawl at 12MPH.

This bike is 2 years old (2014 DS), 11kW battery, with 15 thousand miles on it. I remember somebody was
talking about similar symptoms below 5% charge, but this started way above that. I almost never used more than
70% between charges, only once depleting it down to 5% about a year ago. That time I have not observed any
performance issues, so this is new. Any ideas ?

Thanks!

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2014 DS wheel seals
« on: November 11, 2015, 11:27:46 AM »
My non-Zero mechanic said my front bearings need replacement due to rust, and he would like to replace the seals as well.
Well, bearings have the part number, but seals don't. Has anyone replaced the seals and can recommend some source ?

Guys,

Does anyone have a copy of the instructions ? My kit didn't have one included, and it's a
puzzle to solve.

P.S. Sent an e-mail to the dealer, but I'm not sure when they will get back to me. Would like
to complete the installation this weekend.

Hey everyone!

Purchased a Zero DS 2014 slightly over a year ago. Over 12 thousand miles on the ODO, all in the Pacific Northwest.
This week I had my second solo accident on the bike, pretty much the same as the first one in February this year :
front wheel locked during a slow right turn on a rainy day, and I fell to the right side. Minor scratches to the bike
the first time, this time I slightly bent the mirror and severely bent the brake lever. Brake lever broke when I tried to
straighten it.

The big question now is what to do about the crash bars. I've been searching for them pretty much since the beginning
of the year, and there is still nothing on Zero's or any other aftermarket manufacturer website. I've contacted Zero
about it, and they said "sorry, can't help", even though they make crash bars for the police version of DS.

Second problem is where to find the brake lever that would fit. Master cylinder says Nissin on the side, and brake
lever has 03D stamped on it, but Google search doesn't return any images of similar levers.

Any ideas ?

P.S. As much as I love my Zero, support from Zero is non-existent. We can't get their accessories or parts without a hustle,
can't find anything aftermarket either. Not something you'd expect paying that kind of money for a bike. [/rant]
