Hi folks,
I am considering about buying an Elcon PFC 2500 96V 22A Charger.
The goal is to bring the charging time down to a faster level.
But I have some questions left, which I would like to ask to the experts here.
- What is the maximum power of ONE Battery, if I charge it offboard? Are the 2.5kW from the Elcon PFC2500 too much?
- If I have both batteries onboard my 2013 FX, what is the max. Charging power I can put through the charging port? Zero sells Y-cables to use two Delta-Q chargers with 2kw power. But I have 2500Watts using the PFC 2500.
- If I connect the Elcon PFC 2500 Charger, can I still additionally plug in the onboard Charger? (That´s what I do now together with the Delta Q Charger...

Considering the fact that you could get a CHAdeMO kit for your 2013 FX I don't see how you would have any issues with what you want to do with the Elcons. A CHAdeMO is going to push far more power than an Elcon will.

CHAdeMO will charge the batteries at approximately 1C. That's 25A for a single module or 50A for two modules.
The 96-22 supplies up to 22A DC, and would need to be configured to top out at 117.6V.
The onboard charger supplies around 10A, so combined with the Elcon you would have 32A. That would be slightly over spec for a single module, but would give you about a 90 minute charge for two modules.

CHAdeMO is no alternative, because I do not use public loading stations.
I want to use the chargers in private areas only, because I do offroad riding with my FX.

Is anybody using this PFC 2500 from Elcon?
I need some more informations about the small cable, which is connected beside plus and minus to the battery. It´s a kind of enabling the charger to load, right?
Elcon says:
"We can program your Elcon PFC 2500 96V 22A charger with the attached Alg 520v which is the charge curve we use for Zero Electric motorcycles. It lets you choose the final voltage in 1V increments."
and regarding to the two cables (red and green - if connected, charging is enabled), coming out from their charger:
"The wires should not touch the battery or the frame of the motorcycle as it could damage the charger.
Please ask on the electricmotorcycleforum.com how you should connect the charger."

Most people who are using L2 chargers for their Zeros are using the Elcon chargers. But I think most of us probably just bought them from Hollywood Electrics and they were already set up for the Zero. Give Hollywood Electrics a call and talk to Harlan.

+1, give Hollywood Electrics a call and they'll be able to let you know what to do, or you can have him do it. They set up 2 Elcon 2500W chargers for my 2012 Zero S and provide support when I need it. I haven't heard of someone using them for a FX, but I'm interested to see you do it! Good luck!

I use the Elcons also. Get them from Hollywood Electrics. They will be all set up with the proper connectors and programming for your Zero.
