General Discussion / Li-S the next big thing?
« on: August 03, 2013, 11:13:36 PM »
This is an interesting news article I read over on GM-Volt.com. Could Lithium sulfur be the next big step battery chemistry? Better density, thermally stable, no damage to capacity when run to 100% discharge... They say it is coming in 2014!  It is a good read, check it out!

Cheers, Tom.

General Discussion / Surprised to see a curtain DoctorBass!
« on: March 06, 2013, 02:22:03 AM »
I was watching Daily Planet this afternoon and was surprised to see what must be our local DoctorBass on it!

http://watch.discoverychannel.ca/daily-planet/february-2013/daily-planet---february-25th-2013/#clip872633

His clip starts in at about 1:20 min into the above link. That recumbent really looks like a lot of fun and of course there is a peek of his Zero in the clip. Nice interview DoctorBass. ;D I think I will go check those dead 18v drill batteries I have down in the shop to see if I can salvage one! LOL

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Anyone played with the new App?
« on: February 06, 2013, 10:53:16 PM »
Now that the 13's are making it into the hands of lucky owners I was wondering if anyone has had the chance to play with the new App? I was looking for it in itunes app store but I couldn't find it. It sounds like a really amazing feature of the new bikes! I was amazed with the onstar app for my Volt. It lets you start the car, lock or unlock the doors, beep the horn, check the charge level or start the car charging if it is plugged in and gives you mileage and odometer histories. But one of the things I thought it could use was a basic tuning feature exactly like what Zero has done with the S and DS this year.

So anyone out there had a chance to play with the app yet? I'd love to hear about it or maybe get a link to get the app! ;)

EV Stocks / A123 files for bankruptcy!
« on: October 18, 2012, 07:14:02 AM »

I was quite surprised to read this today.  :o

Though in the long run this may be good news too with Johnson Controls stepping up to the plate. They are a hugely successful company that has a long history! It is definitely good news that they are not being sold to China.  The Chinese are buying up companies like crazy, before long the Chinese will rule the world economically, which some think they already do.

General Discussion / Hello from Erin...
« on: August 14, 2012, 08:17:33 PM »
I just tripped over this forum while searching he net for info on the Zero DS and I see there is a lot more to read about here than just that one bike!! I have been riding since I was a kid on all sorts of ICE powered bikes and currently I ride a Honda NT-400, a JDM bike that is a lower displacement version of the HawkGT. It is the same bike they just sleeved down the engine.

I also last year was freed from the burden of the pumps when I bought a Chevy Volt. My commute is too long to run a full EV so I went with the Volt and I am extremely pleased with the car. It is by far the nicest car I've ever bought and worth every penny. The price, though not cheep, is worth it. My last tank of gas lasted me 5 months and 7669kms (4765miles)! That's somewhere around 785mpg! Of course that is in the summer when the battery has it's best range, but even in the winter I was getting better than 150mpg! I don't think I will ever a non electric car again.

I've been itching for a Dual Sport bike for a few years now and recently saw the Zero DS.
Ever since I was 4, when my Dad bought me a electric plug in Jeep I've wanted an electric vehicle with a useable range. I used to get so mad with that jeep. You could drive it for 10-15 minutes, the best fun ever, and then it needed a day to recharge. That required much more patience than a 4 year old can muster. I'm 42 now and not much more patient and finally the 2012 Zero DS looks to just have that range and recharge ability that I have been waiting for since I was 4. The2012 meets the minimum range I would want on a bike, and from here on in I really think the EV tech will only get better and better. I can hardly wait to see what the improvements for the 2013 model will hold in store for us!!

I will probably lurk for a while. I see I have a lot of reading to do. I will try to contribute where I think I have something worth sharing and try not to ask too many dumb questions without searching the forum for the answers first. It looks like you folks have a strong little community here!
