They keep improving, unlike a certain Leaf car :)

I wonder if I'll ever upgrade. This summer my bike was asleep for most of the time, I like to drive it but I also like to drive my Tesla now. I hope it won't degrade the battery too much, being at 100% all the time. I might consider selling it and maybe buy a new one in a few years.

I'm not sure that anything changed in 2016, but they might have seen enough quality issues in that vein to recommend it. Maybe IPM motors require better calibration than before! It sounds analogous to valve alignment on a gas engine.

Mine require motor calibration maybe twice a year, but I only did it once in 2014. The consequence is that the speed at constant speed is not stable, it tends to accelerate lightly and slow down lightly, really lightly, but enough to be perceived.

I would really love to do this calibration myself, I saw the technician do it, he was not an engineer, he was just following the procedure with the bike on a stand.

My 7 week old daughter, full time job, and side business agree... it sucks how I take time to fix and maintain things. Really eats into the staring at phone and tv time.

Yep, and I'm switching all to electric because of that !! What a shame, my father spent time with me to train the mechanical maintenance !

My motocross gas bike was replaced by the Zero, my Prius is close to being replaced fully by an EV and I have a leased Nissan Leaf. I replaced my LEHR propane trimmer by an EGO 56V (really powerful BTW) trimmer, only the Grasshopper tractor is left.

Once everything is replaced, there will be almost no maintenance to do, more time with family and fun. Only disk brakes on the car will require maintenance, and if I can get my hand on a Tesla, no more body greasing to do.

You could buy a 12VDC - 100 or 200 VAC (not sure about your standards). There is a 12V DC converter in the bike.

Of course there will be losses. It would be better a 100VDC to 100 or 200 VAC converter directly.

Ride safe! Be careful with Sport Mode if there's a chance of ice or patchy oily pavement. If the wheel slips, you'll hear the motor spin up a bit; just ease off the throttle if it happens and it should recover. [I've experienced this in Seattle.]

I like that they kept the crash bars on the bike for you. They're a good safety feature and you can mount lighting or such to them.

Regarding cold, maybe we'll see people making "cozies" for the controller or battery to keep the range up.
I bought a heated blanket for mine, works great

Moving a bike upstairs seems easy for you :)

Hey Farfle I enjoyed reading your post. I don't have much free time because of my 2yo boy is taking most of it, so I only managed to drive 3000 km since November 2013. So my S is spending most of its time in a cool garage plugged in. Should I try to unplug it ?

You're off the grid in your house?

Small improvements but it's OK. Battery tech improvements is really exciting ! Like it was a few decades ago with computers ! Prices in Canada, OUCH!!!

Can't way to see what they have !

But I'm going to stick with my 2013 S, my money is currently focused on the house and on the Leaf.

No luck for you flexydude, I've read most of your stories.

For me I will never have a power tank:
1- Risk of issues when installing.
2- More risk of battery management issues after that.
3- Center of gravity gets higher.
4- Slower 0-60 times.

They sold 15 bikes in 2014. I thought that it was 0.

Got the information from a local news web site.
