Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Lost both Zero dealers in Atlanta
« on: October 21, 2023, 06:33:16 AM »
Killing time and looking at end of season deals I pulled up WOW and Blue Moon and saw both are no longer Zero dealers.

I guess that starts the clock for the end of my electric motorcycle ownership.  So much fun to ride but issues with service and the sales prices never coming down was just too much for it to work out.

I could have done without this news.

General Discussion / Hollywood Electrics closing up
« on: September 14, 2023, 07:16:34 AM »
Copied from the Zero Owners FB page:

All Good Things Must Come to an End
After 14 years of Hollywood Electrics, the time has come to pursue new opportunities and face new challenges. Hollywood Electrics was the first shop of its kind when we opened in Los Angeles in 2009. We introduced the world to electric two-wheeled transportation, back when electric vehicles were still only considered a novelty. Today there are millions of EVs on the road and it won’t be long before they outnumber their internal combustion predecessors. It was exciting to be a part of such a world changing movement and we will never forget all the people and events that touched us on this journey.
Thank you to all our customers, partners, friends, and supporters. This is not goodbye, but simply closing a chapter. We are so grateful for the relationships we’ve made along the way and hope to keep in touch. As we start winding things down we encourage anyone who has any immediate service needs to reach out as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. If you are still on the fence about buying a Zero, we’ve still got new and used inventory left. Give us a call or send us an email for more details.
Enjoy the Ride,
Harlan

Thanks to Harlan and the team for being major electric motorcycle ambassadors and over all major contributors in the early years of the electric era.

Pics and Vids / Stark Varg rolling out

Sounds like it gets a better battery from the start at the same price.
Good news all around.
My younger self would have loved the hell out of this thing.

Damon / Holding out hope
« on: March 22, 2023, 07:41:08 AM »
I have access to a track video of the Hypersport but it's unlisted and I don't know if they want it posted.

The bike looks nimble and hits over 128 in the straight but if the business side isn't there someone else will have to pick up where they leave off if they can't continue.

There is supposed to be news in April but with Zero's layoffs, Lightning's "stock" options, Energica's parent company being overvalued at a dime a share and who knows what's going on with Sonders and Stark it just looks like maybe the world isn't ready for mass electric motorcycles yet.

We'll see.

Damon / Going to EICMA in Milan?
« on: October 22, 2022, 06:47:08 PM »
If you are lucky enough to be able to attend you can stop by the Ohlin's booth and see the Damon Hyperfighter Colossus.
The designer of the Hyperfighter's good looks, Italy's own Noemi Napolitano, will be there to answer questions in Italian and English.
Maybe if you're charming and persuasive enough she might give you a hint at what she's working on next.
If she does let me know.

Pics and Vids / Better Cells faster charging. Anyone want 6C?
« on: October 02, 2022, 07:22:31 PM »
From Fully Charged comes a look at GAC Aion a Chinese car brand who is showing off their 3C cells and claiming their 6C cells are almost ready.

So the current standard charging rate is 1C which is why most EVs go from 0-85ish% in, you guessed it, 1 hour.  Balance time and throttle back points aside.

If we take, in theory, a 20kWh pack with 6C cells and have a 120kw charging station then you could recharge in 6 minutes.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Money for Zero might get you CCS

Here's Bill from the EV Rider channel talking about Zero's 107 million from Polaris.
Plus it's the first time I've heard a sells figure.  About 20k bikes so not bad.

Pics and Vids / Driving and charging. Realizing the dream.
« on: September 11, 2022, 08:16:29 PM »
Not a single motorcycle in the whole video from Electrek.co but here is proof that you can charge while trailering or in bed, at least in a Ford F150 Lightning.  Plus there is a cool electric jet ski in the video.

This opens up so many options.  This is level two 6-7kw charging so it's very manageable time wise for even 0-100 charging on bikes with good enough AC charging.  Smaller off roads bike days? Check.  Tour riding in remote locations without long boring highway rides? Check.

Race days where the charging is only level 1 if there is any at all?  Check.  No generator needed.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Message from Zero on FB on the Cypher Store
« on: September 03, 2022, 04:41:56 AM »
A Zero rep posted this on the Zero owners FB page:

Hello Zero Owners,
As many of you are aware we are getting ready to release Cypher upgrades this fall for owners with applicable models. We’d like to thank you for your patience as we complete the work on this program and provide you with some information about the path ahead.
Since we first introduced Cypher Store and Cypher III+ upgrades, the Zero Motorcycles team has continued to pay careful attention to the thoughts and feedback of those in this group, our beta testing team, as well as the broader motorcycle community. There has been some clear feedback that certain upgrades may feel like they are intentionally ‘paywalled’ for the sole purpose of profit to Zero and not for the benefit of our valued owners. It is our intention to always put the owner’s experience at the center of what we do as we drive future innovations in two-wheeled electric transportation. Therefore, we are making some changes.
Over the following week, we will be notifying all MY22 motorcycle owners of these Cypher upgrade changes. The actual process to complete these upgrades will be outlined and emailed in detail by October 1, 2022.
Thank you for your continued support!
