Title: Still have hope
Post by: s44captain on May 25, 2016, 05:45:48 PM
I haven't heard much from Harley other than waiting for battery technology to double. 2017 is just around the corner. I'm wondering how long to stretch my 2012S out (still 100% battery and #6 controller).

Regarding the H-D LiveWire, I am not holding my breath until it is manufactured and marketed to the general public.  I never felt that electric motorcycles were going to be something that H-D would embrace any time soon.  ::)  Even Polaris, which is a much more progressive company than H-D, seems to be struggling with the EV concept.   ???  Every motorcycle company loves to make electric motorcycle prototypes and concepts, but actually getting their governing boards to approve the vehicles for mass production seems to be a pretty high hurtle. No one seems to be sure if they will sell enough to actually make a profit. A few thousand a year is not going to cut it for the big guys.  They are looking for a market of tens of thousands of electric motorcycles a year and are not seeing that sort of demand yet (in my opinion).  ???

I had heard that the president of Harley Davidson said 2020 was the date they expect to be producing them.

Designing an incredibly awesome electric motorcycle will be the easy part for Harley. Getting their dealers to sell them will be the hard part.

If they force them, it will be a Buell situation all over again.
I used to travel alot, and would go into HD dealershipps just to look at Buells.  Only ONE dealer out of 10-12 would understand and take it seriously. The rest usually tried to sell me some kind of air cooled noise generator designed in the 1960s that generated power only as a byproduct of sound weighed too much, and had as much lean angle as the leaning tower of pisa.
