Title: Convert zero DS to S
Post by: Doctorbass on February 22, 2012, 09:34:00 PM
Do you know the difference from a zero DS to a S ?

To modify a DS to S, is the main change are to readjust and lower both suspensions and change the wheel fairing?

I guess that the frame is the same right?... so the pitch of the front forkk is the same too.. so it would be just to adjust the fork offset lenght and also to adjust the rear suspension?.. maybe playing with the stiffnet?

any info?

If we are talking about the 2012 bikes, I have read the owner's manual and both bikes are treated equally in the manual, other than the chassis specifications.  There appears to be no real difference, other than the longer suspension and maybe slightly lower gearing (I think the S has a 25-tooth counter-shaft "sprocket" and the DS has a 28-tooth sprocket).  When Zero drops off a loaner DS for me later this week, I'll check it over more thoroughly and take some photos of anything that looks different.  Oh yes, I think the DS has a harder seat, too.   ;)

The 2011 owner's manual is also for the S and DS.

I just realized that a big difference between the S and DS are the wheels. The DS has a smaller rear wheel and (I think) a larger front wheel. Plus the tire tread is more aggressive and they have tubes.  Also, Zero offers a chain-drive option for use off road.

It looks like my S will be picked up tomorrow, but I'll have to get by without a loaner (no big hardship, as I have 5 other bikes) as the Press will be riding Zero's demonstrators this weekend.  Hopefully that will result in some good press to read in the coming months.   :)

Very good. Zero's done a very nice job of executing on shipping the bikes - personally I think Richard230's posts are a better recommendation for the bike than anything a bike magazine can put out, but magazine tests will definitely hit a wider audience.

Thanks Richard for these precisions

I saw on the specs of the 2011 that the DS is 16 rear and 17 front wheel and the S is 17 on both wheel.

Forks, shock, wheels and gearing are the major components. Front fender, graphics and colors are the others.
