I have 27 years worth of riding experience (I ride 5-6 days a week, about 50 weeks per year) and I still want Traction Control.

1. Traction Control.
2. Inspired design.

ChainGun,

I'd be interested to hear your story of how the battery issue progressed.  Does your SOC indicate 60%, or does it indicate 100%, but you noticed decrease in range?  Did this happen fairly abruptly, or was it a slow degradation?  Did they give you any clues about how they analyzed the battery?  I've read that they determine loss of capacity by analyzing battery logs.  Since we have the ability to look at the logs ourselves, I'm curious to know what they look at.

1. Last week I got a replacement battery. Dealer said it's used but less than 1000 KM and it's 9.8, better than my old 9.4. Performance wise, I'm happy. Not sure I made the best decision (I could have waited for the new battery) but I was sick of riding the train to work and back.
2. The degradation took a few weeks. The battery indicated 100% but I was starting to get speed-capped after less than 80KM (normally the range is 120 KM). Had some real frightening rides where I keep decelerating on a highway. On the day I returned the bike to the dealer, battery said 49% remaining on a ride which normally left ~70% available. Since I live on a hill, 49% at work means I can't make the ride home.
3. I sent them logs but Zero don't share the results or findings with you, only with the dealership.

All in all, I'm satisfied. I'd be happy to answer additional questions.

My original is 9.4, the (used) replacement is 9.8. I don't know what's the capacity of the one Zero is sending but I agree, if ZF13 (or even ZF12.5) I'd rather wait a few weeks.

Thanks, your advise makes sense. The used battery probably wasn't used for racing, just commute.

My Zero S 2015 battery dropped to 60% capacity in September and is now in a state where I can't reliably commute with he bike. The dealer took the bike, contacted Zero and after some negotiations, Zero agreed to ship me a new battery (which will arrive in 8-10 weeks). Dealer says he has a slightly used battery (around 1000 KM) for me to use but says he won't change twice, i.e, he won't install the used battery now and then replace it with the new batter Zero sent when it arrives. From the dealer's point of view, I have two options:
1. Take the slightly used battery
2. Wait 8-10 weeks for a new battery

What are my rights here? Is the dealer/Zero obliged to provide me a new battery if my old one died under warranty? If he doesn't have a new battery, is he obliged to give me a replacement bike? I've never been in a similar situation, so I'm a bit at a loss here...

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / What's Zero-c?

1. This very cool article (http://www.en.netralnews.com/news/lifestyle/read/5621/the.motorcycle.showdown.gas.vs.electric) shows images of something called Zero-C. Anyone knows what it is?

2. The article says "Weirdly, though, and unforgivably, the Zero doesn’t feature traction control.". What's Traction Control and why is it unforgivable (in the author's opinion, of course) that Zero doesn't have it?

After 10 years with a gigantic Suzuki DL-650 and top box, I couldn't bring myself to install a top box on my Zero S, it looks just too damn ugly. My alternative is a Ogio Mach 5 backpack. I know, an 22 litre backpack is no comparison to a 40 litre top box but for the last year I learned to live without a top box and a very sexy looking (IMHO) backpack as a replacement.

...aero/weight changes can all change your range.

Did you just call me fat?!  ;)

Zero S 2015
*My wife sometimes mocks me on how small the bike look (compared to my previous 20 year Suzuki DL-650 and VX800) but its size makes it ideal for lane splitting and riding on narrow shoulders during traffic jams (as is the common practice in Israel).
*Even after 24K KM I still can't find the perfect riding posture. There is a groove in the seat where I supposed my butt is supposed to go but it's too far for me to sit comfortably. Sometimes I find myself with my groin almost touching the "fuel tank".
*Mirrors are ridiculous.
*I don't interface with Zero, only with the Israeli dealer. He never disappointed me.
*Design wise, I'm disappointed because how bland it looks. People do come over and say it's beautiful, but for the life of me I can't see why.
*I love the bike because of engine. It's fast, powerful, silent and fun. I'm very happy with the bike.

Likely culprits are drops in temperature, or changes in riding habits.

My bike heard you, during today's ride the usage dropped to levels I'm used to. Seriously, it's probably the weather. People don't think "cold" when they think "Israel" but we have our share of cold weeks now and then and the last couple of days were warmer, immediately impacting the efficiency. Thanks!

You need to expand your time frame over a couple more years, in the last 5-7 years the rate of advancement in battery technology has been pretty impressive, and over the last 10-15 years it's been astounding.

I completely agree but for 2015+ models, I don't the progress is relevant since it seems the industry has reached a plateau in terms of capacity/range. I hope to be surprised, of course, but IMHO the changes in recent models was negligible compared to 2015 models.

...how quickly battery technology has been advancing

How quickly is it advancing? I've been following Zero for two years now and riding a Zero S for the past 16 months and I don't see any breakthrough in range or battery capacity since I've started taking interest in electrical motorcycles. What am I missing?

Hi all.
I bought a brand new Zero S on October 2015 and rode it some 24K kilometers. In recent weeks, I feel that the capacity is deteriorating, traveling to work and back used to leave me with some 30% capacity (ZF9.4, 74 KM round trip) and now 15-18% is more common. Is there any way I can check what is the current state of battery capacity and whether I have a real problem or not?

Electric Terry, thanks for your input. I think the combination of sitting little too much towards the front of the bike, keeping the tires (especially the rear) fully inflated per the manual and miniature bumps in the road caused my read wheel to lose traction. I'll try to lose a little air and position my ass closer the rear part of the bike and see how it feels.
