Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Custom fast charger for 2016 zero for saoe
« on: September 27, 2023, 05:59:52 AM »
Custom fast charger, plugs into 2 regular wall sockets, can charge a 2016 zero in 2 hours, draws 19 amps used with a 2016 zero dsr.
Australia only, DM for contact details if your looking to buy.

Hay guys I sold my zero and am looking to get rid of some extra stuff, I have custom made side saddles, hydraulic bike stand with straps, a custom made fast charger that can charge a 2016 zero in 2 hours, a vozztech helmet with comms.

hay all, had the idea of buying myself a new car and doing it up and using my 2016 dsr as the drivetrain like what this guy did in this youtube video.

the major concerns for me would be the difference in weight between the bike and the car, I'm happy as long as the car would be able to still hit 110km/h and be able to make it uphill without slowing down.
I'm not sure on the specification for the motor and whether the additional load would burn it out, it's an interesting idea to use wrecked electric motorcycles as electric conversion kits for cars.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Zero dsr onboard charger replacement.
« on: October 17, 2022, 04:36:50 AM »
So my 2016 dsr finally had its first hiccup after 6 years of ownership and 60k KMs.

Had a good run, the onboard charger is dying, I need a replacement, I would like to have a direct replacement so I can still plug it into the wall from home, but would also like a faster option if it's available.

What are my options and where can I buy them?

Looking for a new fast charger for my 2016 DSR, i had a prototype charger that David hiley made for me that could plug into 2, 240v 10a house sockets and charge my bike in 2 hours but it broke and I haven't been able to contact him about getting it repaired, so I'll need to buy a new fast charger, I'd like to be able to just use regular 10a house plugs as they are the most convenient way to charge up, any recommendations, obviously faster the better, but It will need to be able to use regular house sockets.

I've had my Zero DSR 2016 for 4 years, instead of using my car I've been using my bike, rain or cold weather never stopped me, I've only had to replace my tyres twice and replace the belt once, if I was still using my old V8 Toyota soarer, I'd be using $100 in fuel a week, 52X$100 =$5200 a year X4 years is $20,800.

I took out a personal loan to get the bike at $26,000 which to a poor ass like me was more money then I ever saw in my life, I am extremely happy that over the last 4 years I've saved so much in fuel and maintenance costs that my bike has almost paid for itself in the money that it has saved me in fuel alone.

That being said a regular 250cc bike only uses $9 in fuel each week, will save you a tonne of money and can run you $2000 to buy one, but maintenance costs will run much higher.

all in all an electric motorcycle basically has the lowest footprint of any conventional modern vehicle, only costs me $4 to refuel it from the power point and nothing if I charge it at my workplace or from a solar array.

every year that passes makes me that little bit happier with my purchase and even though the buy-in cost is high, it's always going to be worth it if you are in it for the long haul like I am.

I'd love to hear other peoples thoughts and how much they have saved by going electric.

I'm interested in adding a 240 volt power socket to my motorcycle in order to power anything I need on the go, I've seen this done in a car before with an inverter so I'd like to know if it can be done with our motorcycles? would be an interesting addition as you could then potentially share your power with another zero rider or use your bike as a portable power station.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Charging while riding?
« on: November 09, 2017, 04:47:01 AM »
Just wanted to know if the bike is capable of charging using the onboard and quick charging ports while your riding it?
was thinking about making a lithium UPS system to increase my range without having to buy extra batteries from zero.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Stuck in eco mode
« on: June 29, 2017, 01:27:16 PM »
Just went to use my bike after charging it up after I got home from work, I usually leave it in custom mode, but I noticed it was in eco mode and the Bluetooth icon was flashing, tried to press the mode button but it wont change at all, its stuck in eco mode, anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Minimum charging voltage?
« on: May 24, 2017, 04:29:25 PM »
What's the minimum and maximum charging voltage for a stock 2016 zero DSR?

I want a fast charger for my bike, don't know anything about electronics, so cant really understand the lingo.
any doing installs in nsw, Australia?

12
I got a SAE to USB accessory from eBay and need to install it, can someone please provide the details as to where the SAE connector is located and what I need to take off to get to it? Pictures would help out a lot if you have them.

13
Need a 12v accessory kit like that which zero sells on their website, but looking for one in Australia, I'd prefer not to deal with zero motorcycles in Australia as they don't reply to quotes or enquiries made online. Cheaper I can find it the better, also I have no idea how to install one yet, but we'll pass that bridge when we come to it.
anyone know where I can find one or have a second hand one up for sale?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / pedal assisted regeneration?
« on: April 17, 2017, 06:53:10 PM »
I was looking at velomobiles today to discover that they regenerate electric motor power through peddling and got to thinking if it were possible to connect interconnectable peddles to a vehicle like the zero, so if you ran out of juice you could charge the battery by peddling for a while?
initially I thought of the 150kg weight of the bike being too heavy to peddle uphill, but also thought of making lift to raise the back tire off the ground and charge the bike like your on some sort of exercise bike...
its all just hearsay but its still a very interesting concept to talk about.
I know trying this would quite possibly take a full day or more to charge something like a zero, perhaps someone more technically minded with a bit of engineering experience can enlighten me to how hard it would be to try to pedal a 150kg motorcycle.

Hello everyone I've gone ahead and made my own saddlebags and saddle bag racking for my 2016 zero DSR, I used steel tubing and aluminum toolboxes to make it, here are some pictures and link to my youtube where you can see the finished product.
