Update on the Booant battery install…  This little bike did 20 miles of trails on a single charge last weekend, keeping up just fine with kids on 70 and 110cc gas bikes.  The throttle battery meter still wasn't down to the last bar when we stopped, so it could have gone farther for sure.  Towards the end my son (80lbs) did say that it was getting weaker on long uphills (100+ meters long), but I’m not sure if that was due to heat build up or battery voltage dropping.  Overall very happy so far.

Update - i think the original link is dead, but this is equivalent:  This one I believe: https://booant.com/collections/36v-battery/products/booant-36v-electric-bike-battery-10s-30ah-1500w-lg-lithium-ion-battery-pack-18650-with-5a-charger?variant=30262153871423

Update - they keep killing the links.  Will add my order detail below, in case anyone wants to search for a current equivalent.

That looks like the Kuberg Start...judging by the front wheel looks smallish.

2016 Cross with Hero controller and rear shock (installed by previous owner).  The older models came with some really odd custom tires, which are almost square (flat across the knobs).

Have you connected the battery to the Kuberg controller or only to the engine? So you don't charge the battery through the controller I think?

The Li-ion battery has two cables - charging and discharge.  Discharge cable is plugged into the controller.  Charging cable is left hanging under the shrouds, and I plug the Li-ion charger directly into it.

Finally received and installed this 30.6Ah battery:
https://booant.com/products/booant-36v-electric-bike-battery-10s-30ah-1500w-lg-lithium-ion-battery-pack-18650-with-5a-charger-1?fbclid=IwAR0DLdMHkNfI8CoPVlinTAc7-HwcevgyXjz-kjDdpOmE5M9D4Z3MydKpn9Q

I put the battery into this bag, for waterproofing, fire mitigation, and some padding protection.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083S75JGY/

The width was line-to-line with the frame rails, so I had to remove 1/16 inch from each rail.  I also used a 1 inch block to hold the battery above the lower compartment brackets and some closed-cell foam to protect the lower front corner.  I used the stock velcro straps to secure everything in place.

It came with an XC90 connector for the power output.  For now, I'm using another small adapter to convert the spade connectors on the controller to the XC90 connector on the battery.

It came with an XC60 connector for the charger input, and I was able to use the same body panel opening to hook up the charge cable.

Everything seemed to work well on a first ride around the yard.  It pulled me (170lbs) up a decent slope with full throttle on level 3 with no problems.

Couple more options < $300 on ebay, which have plenty of current (50A / 100A max) and include a 5A charger:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/36V-20Ah-Li-ion-Lithium-Battery-Pack-For-Electric-Bike-With-5A-Charger-50A-BMS/163711527429?hash=item261df7aa05:g:Mt4AAOSwNQNc5jmV
Would fit vertically, spanning top and bottom compartments after removing a small amount of material from the battery support channels.

Would fit in top compartment, coming very close to the controller.

Here's a USA-based distributor for the Mototec 10Ah Lithium Battery (and a few other parts) that may fit the Kuberg.

I stumbled across this bike when searching for batteries, and it spurred a couple questions:

MotoTec 36v Pro Kids Electric Dirt Bike 1000w Lithium
https://www.walmart.com/ip/MotoTec-36v-Pro-Kids-Electric-Dirt-Bike-1000w-Lithium-Green/184498868

Q1 - Would the 10Ah lithium battery for this Mototec bike work with a Kuberg Cross?  If it's 36V, and has a 1000W motor and up to 35A controller, then it seems like it would provide all the power that the Kuberg needs?  That said, I can't find a battery for this 2020 model yet, but if the whole bike is $700, the battery must be pretty cheap.  It would reduce significant weight from a Kuberg, and maybe could buy multiples.

Q2 - Is this bike as good as the Kuberg Cross, at 1/3 the price?  It's Chinese, vs Czech, but I don't see many things to criticize that I couldn't also say about the Kuberg.

A few I’ve found that might work:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/303208792815  ($254- almost 6” wide, vs 4” Kuberg tray)
https://www.pingbattery.com/ (Traded emails, said he could build one that fits perfectly But didnt give a price - similar packs on website run around $450)
https://www.boost-bikes.co.uk/pages/oset-battery-kits  (Traded emails, said they have a design ready for kuberg for $513).  Found them per this article:  https://www.juniormoto.com/2019/01/23/switch-to-lithium-battery/?lang=en

Kuberg OEM:
https://store.kuberg.com/part/battery-trial-and-cross-li-on-36v/UN-0235. (767 Euro)

Keeping this alive in hopes that someone has found a compatible pack and is willing to share the details, or a battery expert is willing to give advice.

I'm not a battery expert, but here's what I've gathered so far:
  • Stock batteries: 3x 12v SLA (NT12-12)
  • Motor: 750w
  • POWER: 3000 watts, 36 V
  • CONTROLLER: PWM, 40 amp
  • Rule: Battery should be rated for more current/amps than controller - motor and controller will draw what they need
  • Peak power(3000W) = Voltage(36V) X Max Current(83A)
So, does this mean we need a BMS with a continuous discharge > 40A and max discharge > 83A?  If so, this seems to rule out most of the 36V packs that are readily available.

Any help much appreciated.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: LED turn signals
« on: November 02, 2018, 10:33:26 PM »
I asked this question over on Facebook too.  Has anyone tried these drop-in turn signals in their Zeros?
http://www.aerostich.com/sundry/bulbs-and-lighting-upgrades/led-replacement-signal-bulbs.html

One watchout is the height - sometimes this style of LED bulb won't allow the lens to be fully seated.

Here's a cheap alternative that I am using in my FX.  Order a couple extras as quality isn't great.  A $10 flasher replacement is also required in order to run simple LED bulbs - not a difficult job at all.

Your conclusions are probably right, given that Zeros lifetime sales are in the range of 10,000 bikes.

However, there are least 29 used Zeros on cycle trader right now, throughout the US.  Shipping can be had for $200-1000 from about anywhere, which is what I did.

Good luck.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: FXS EEE Error Code on Startup
« on: May 24, 2018, 08:15:43 PM »
I am now seeing this on my 2015 FX, following a couple months of storage this winter (at ~80% charge).  The clock doesn't always reset to 0:00, but it does get affected often enough that I have given up on keeping it properly set.  The display does show "EEE" during startup every time.

Thanks for the links Arcadia.  The problem I see with the bulb in your first link is they are clear and we need an amber bulb for our turn signals. The base is also a BA15S so you would need to file off one of the pins to get it to fit in the socket.

Sorry about that... try this one maybe (2 for $1.54 with free shipping):

I had one fall apart right away, so you may want to order an extra pair.
