2016 FXS 6.5 (1100 miles, current firmware upgrades, controller updated and motor timing checked 3 days ago)
ok, so one of the things that sold me on this bike was the fact that you could remove 1 battery and lighten the load. so, today i decided to try it for the first time. after getting down to my little track, i burned a couple laps to warm the tires and myself, then pulled over and pulled the front battery. i set the battery i removed off to the side, buttoned the bike back up, jumped on, and nothing. bike would turn on, looked fine, but had a yellow flashing (system warning indicator) light, and no throttle input. got off, messed with it a few times, same result. i put the other battery back in, bike works fine.
so, am i stupid? am i doing something wrong, or have i missed a step. what is it?
checked the manual but of course it says nothing.
thanks,
laramie ;)

As far as I know you need a special dummy plug in place of the missing battery if you want to use an FX with only one battery.
-
Exactly. The bike will not operate without the plug.
it can be found sometimes zip tied beneath the front of the seat.

So THAT'S what that is!

Knew it had to be something stupid. Thanks.

Remove the rear battery and you should be able to access it without removing the seat.

Thank god for the forum!

was wondering what that was for! I found it under there when I was exploring.

I made a quick wiki entry for this: http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Common_Modifications#FX_Dual_to_Single_Battery (http://zeromanual.com/index.php/Common_Modifications#FX_Dual_to_Single_Battery)

At first I thought it was the connector for the quick charger. That connector is located behind the rubber cover on the lower right. The OBDII hookup is under the left "tank" shroud with a cover on it. Kinda hard to see as it is all black, my dealer had a hard time finding it! The SAE is under the wiring bundle under the right "tank" shroud. I got an SAE / USB 12" cable for a few bucks, routed it under and through to the left front for phone, camera or whatever. Only works when key is on for what that is worth.

Would (anyone) someone with this model Zero take nice in-focus pictures of these areas and add to the wiki manual?

I took photos of all this with my phone but they are always too big to post.

You should be able to add them directly to the wiki... but if you cant let me know and I'll see about setting up some kind of quick and dirty email address for things like this.

Could someone put a scale under the front and then rear wheel with two batteries and one battery in each position.
This was kind of a problem with the salesman in that I just could not communicate about spring rates and choices should I get the one battery model or choose to set up the two battery module model for the lighter weight.
For what it is worth my KTM free ride got 120 lbs on the front wheel and 122 or so on the rear, just about perfect compared to what the state of the industry is for that type of product.
