Title: Engage onboard charger with CT?
Post by: shayan on January 19, 2021, 01:37:20 AM
Is there a way to mode the bikes where we can engage both the CT and the onboard charger for the S/SR/DS/DSR models? I know the bikes used to do this automatically for the older generation ChargeTanks.
I see this as beneficial as i see some 7.3kW Chargepoint stations around and would even benefit when on Tesla destination chargers.

You can get splitter cables that give you the J plug as well as either a C13/14 connector to go straight into the bike or a mains socket to plug in the charge cable that comes with the bike. I think some people have also put an internal link cable going from the charge tank socket to the C13/14 socket but it's probably best to have the option to use either on their own.

Any pointers on where I can get such a splitter cable? I tried looking up for a J1772 splitter and all I see are the TucsonEV ones which only split J1772 to c13/15/19.

Hi
Are you in type 1 or type 2 region ?

for type 2, there is this setup, I don't know if anyone here have tested it :
https://eauto.si/metron-shop/product/zero-dsr-type-2-upgrade-kit/

you could also use a custom cable with t2 to t1+c13

with type 1, as said above you could split one phase. I have such a cable (but with t2 connector, still only one phase used though), ordered as a custom request to https://www.evchargeking.com/en/
I don't know if they could ship to where you are, but they sure can make it.

works nice with 7.4kw max according to the app

Since all the public chargers here are type 2 (or DC), and we have to carry the type 1 to type 2 lead anyway, I just added a C13 terminated lead into the type 1 plug.  It works 100% on any of the local chargers, delivering the full 7.3kW.

That Zero DSR Type 2 Upgrade kit is quite interesting, I had thought of changing the charge tank socket to a type 2, but never figured out a way to enable the lock.  At least with the type 1, a padlock can still be used to lock the cable in - without it, someone is sure to disconnect you!

This is pretty much what i'm looking for! Except that i live in USA where everything is type 1. So in my case i would look at t1 to t1+c13. I'll check with evchargeking if they can make one such thing, thanks for the pointer!
If not there is TucsonEV here in the USA who makes such adapters. Will check with them as well..
