Parts, Mods And Hacks / Fitting a Hollywood Electrics Fairing
« on: June 30, 2018, 01:16:20 AM »
Hi. Hopefully over the next couple of days I will document here a "how not to" guide as I fit the Hollywood Electrics Fairing to my SR...

As the fairing is arriving tomorrow, today is about gathering the tools required, and doing the odd job around the bike.

First things first prepping the bike for surgery...

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Bruntingthorpe Speed Run / Track Day
« on: September 14, 2017, 04:29:20 PM »
A bit of a fun post.

Last weekend I got to go on a bit of a work jolly (audio recording session, can't say what for), and found myself and my SR at a track day at Bruntingthorpe proving grounds for the Spyder Motorcycle Club's annual speed weekend. This is a great track as it boasts a two mile long straight which was once the main runway.

Weather was a little... foreboding... as was the "competition" nearly all the bikes there were litre superbikes, BMW S1000RR's and ZZR1400's, only a 635 Street Triple was remotely close to my SR...

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.490186,-1.1242169,1942m/data=!3m1!1e3
Google maps view of the rather nice Bruntingthorpe Airfield Track, the course is nothing more than the two mile straight, back along the taxi way past the planes amd back up to the top of the main straight, more a drag strip than a real circuit track... ;)

However once we'd got the bike wired up with microphones, I was free to play on the track and get some recordings. (spoiler alert, the zero's motor sounds really high pitched when picked up from a contact mike...)

So, a solid 100mph down the main straight, not quite a quick as the ZZR1400 and the BMW S1000RR's that were there (hitting their limiters at 186mph)  but respectable enough.

Weather mostly held off, though it did start to get wet by the end of the day.

Small selection of the bikes there, the Zero looks tiny compared to the litre superbikes. ;)

Generally a fantastic day, and a big shout out to the Spyder Motorcycle Club for putting on the track day.

Now I just *really* want to go back next year and try and break the 100mph barrier next year, maybe 110?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / [Stolen Zero] UK Zero Owners Alert
« on: December 20, 2016, 02:30:12 PM »
My Zero 2015 SR "BX65MZJ" has been stolen, I have no illusions that it's not either headed for a container port, or being broken up to sell.

If you spot a "breaker" selling SR2015 parts in the UK, please let me know.

Thanks.

That is diesels in particular. Turning out of a junction this evening, I hit a patch and my SR spat me off as I tried to accelerate away.

Bike is not too badly damaged, bent handlebar and smashed mirror, plus ground a good chunk of the brake lever away... ::)

My poor elbows a mess, but the bike rode on home without missing a beat.

Its a Tough little bike.

Remember everyone, dont be like me, keep the rubber side down this Winter.  ;)

General Discussion / The Winter Hack.
« on: March 10, 2016, 01:39:23 PM »
While I do ride my Zero during the winter months, I do keep an older bike around for when things get a bit hairy.

How hairy.
Well this was'nt far off my commute yesterday.

And this was part of it... just one of the six floods I either had to avoid or ride through, the one below was not the worst I rode through.

I opted to put my beat up old Diversion through this hell, rather than my still shiny new SR... ;)

Hopefully the roads will be clearer today. :)
Sorry guys, I'm sure our bikes can wade through this sort of thing, but I'm not going to be the one to test it... ;)

How tough?
Well, a Fox shot out in front of me today. As it just missed my front wheel its head connected with the front of the battery tray, and the rest of it with my right foot. Luckily (for me) the SR is a heavy bike, so I was able to keep the bike going forward, rubber side down, though not without a serious wobble.

Total damage, a very minor crack on the front plastic cover over the battery, and a wee bit of fox hair trapped between the plastics.

I don't think the fox faired so well, though I did'nt see it post collision, so hopefully it got away with just a serious headache.

Yep, the SR is tough.  :o

A very short video from Radio 5 Live.
This time focusing on the British company Saietta, though not a bike I've seen before, possibly a test rig?

No not a traffic accident.

But I might have tripped over at my dealers and accidentally brought an SR with Power Tank...

It was an accident I tell you (and told my Wife... ;) )

My new Type 2 socket and charging cable. J1772 is not popular here in the UK, so I needed a more European solution. ;)
