Title: 2018 SR Throttle Assembly Mount Screws: Torx? Proprietary?
Post by: calamarichris on June 10, 2020, 08:31:07 AM
What's the deal with the torx screws on this throttle assembly?  There is a peg in the torx insertion point that prevents use of a standard torx wrench, so it appears you must use a custom, hollowed out shaft torx tool for this.

Has anyone else run into this?

Is this a standard tool I can find at a hardware store, or a proprietary tool that's going to take another 2-3 weeks to arrive at my Zero dealer?

My gf got impatient and flat-track-lowsided my 2018 SR, (happily not hurt), and everything else appears pretty standard, just this

You can buy at hardware store.  Auto Parts store.

You loosen the screws only enough to slide it off.

The throttle grip comes as one complete unit.

They're called security or anti tamper screws, you can also get allen/hex screws with the same thing. If you don't want to wait for some security bits to arrive you can usually snap the pin on smaller screws with a small flat head screwdriver.

Thanks fellows. My usual old-time hardware store was closed, but there was an old guy at the Lowe's who knew exactly what it was. Never seen these before and so relieved they are not some proprietary bs.
Thanks and ride safely!
