Harley LiveWire Forum / Still have hope
« on: May 25, 2016, 05:45:48 PM »
I haven't heard much from Harley other than waiting for battery technology to double. 2017 is just around the corner. I'm wondering how long to stretch my 2012S out (still 100% battery and #6 controller).

It will fit the 2013 too but will require some bracket mods as it is slightly larger. Contact Harlan at Hollywood Electrics for the kit.

I finally took a test ride around town on a 2014S and while it seemed better built and faster than my stock 2012 I liked the lighter weight of my 2012 more so I opted for the size 6 upgrade instead of a new bike. When I got the bike back from Harlan it seemed much faster than the 2014 that I took around town. I'm sure that would be different on the open road but my gosh what a difference! My buddy Eric with a Suzuki 400 swears it's much faster than his. If you own a 2012 and lust after a new SR but don't have an extra 10k floating around get a size 6 Controler and enjoy your "new" bike. I just wish I had done it a year earlier.

Just a note that "doubletake" mirrors with the Yamaha adaptor fit the 2012-2014 Zeros. Way more adjustability than stock.

Thanks for all the info. I'm dropping mine off for warranty. I'm very thankful for the 2 year warranty.

Protomech, what was the final answer to resolve the behavior in your bike (I ask as mine seems to have caught the same flu).

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / Backwards running ZF-9
« on: November 28, 2013, 02:33:28 AM »
I have 6900 flawless miles on my 2012 ZF 9. Yesterday I had a really nice 65 mile run up to Cambria for a salmon sandwich but this morning when I hopped on it ran backwards! That hasn't happened since my trials days in the early 70s when my Bultaco 2 stroke would be out of time.... I did take it in for all the recalls in the past. Anyhow I still have about 5 months of warranty left and Harlan at Hollywood Electrics is very willing to make things work (which is great since my local dealer lost his lease). I was just wondering if anyone else had this issue and what the final fix was.

The factory added another "brick" to my pack turning it into a 9kw. I also added a second charger in a travel trunk with a J17 plug that uses both chargers when on the road. Being able to use the free J17 stations really helps extend trips. I'll probably wait until 2015 for my next Electric, but it will have to have both 110 and J17 charging on board and hopefully look better than the fake radiator shrouding on my 2012. If the 2015s are also lightweight and have a 15kw battery I'd give up my gas bike completely!

I was jamming down the twisties on 41, coming out of the last turn onto the flat was a speed trap. The officer didn't hear me coming and we saw each other about the same time. As he was lifting his radar gun up I was on the brakes. Had I been on my Buell he would have heard me coming and been ready. No ticket, no traffic school. That's probably  $400.00 savings?

When the cost of lithium batteries drop 70% I bet you we see all kinds of new Electric bikes being developed! Plus I have heard rumors of some kind of new polymers that supposedly could double the range of our current batteries. I bet we see some more really cool bikes soon. As the current crop is already fun and that's half the battle.

Richard, Honda first opened hundreds of small shops, then they did the nicest people ads. The only reason those ads worked was because they made the dealerships affordable.   Currently in our county we have no Japanese dealerships as they have priced the franchises out of reach. We used to have 2 of each brand. Now we have just 3 shops, SYM, Beta & Harley. SYM and Beta are easy buy ins. I would not doubt that SYM will bump one of the big four Japanese brands due to having affordable franchises. We have one long time electric bicycle shop but they were blown out of the water with the buy in costs. They first tried Brammo who wanted 50k+. So instead there is no electric motorcycle dealer for 200 miles. I opened my first motorcycle shop in 1970 while still in High School with just one summers savings. The brand was Taco mini bikes (about $500.00 for 3) I then added Jawa and had a nice 3 year run before moving west to work for Long Beach Honda.

Zero or Brammo need to look at honda marketing from the 60s and not today's marketing. Back when Honda first started it only took 2 or 3 bikes and minimum cash outlay to start. There should be 2 catagories or levels of dealerships. Category 1 should be a protected area with both bike and parts stocking requirements and best margin. Category 2 should be minimum buy in with just 2 or 3 bikes, no protected area and smaller margin. This would allow many of the smaller parts of the country to stock their bikes. Dealerships could be anything from a small bicycle shop or auto garage to a full on Motorcycle shop. To have the same requirements for a small town as a large city is a good way to make sure your product doesn't get purchased in small town, USA.

I've been riding gas bikes since 1968 and electrics since my first homemade one 10 years ago. 2012 was the first year I put more miles on my electric bike than my gas (4000+ on the Zero and just under 1000 on the Buell). The new crop of electric bikes just keep getting more fun to ride and that is the real reason I ride.  I run boats so I don't have a regular 5 days a week commute but if I did I the electric would be a huge winner.  The gas is still nice for those days you want to wander off and have no idea where or how far you are going to explore.  If I was only allowed to have one motorcycle it would be electric......

Thanks Richard, the blue knob on top did the trick. I think around 3000 miles the seals lost most of that new bike "stiction" as the dampening seemed to lessen. Good now - thanks again!
