thinking of buying this above for $400 to $500 and putting on my ds2010 to increase range.

If I bought this dustbin fairing, can I expect a 40% increase in fuel/range, or in my case range since I would be using an electric motorcycle?

I just want to make sure it is worth it before I spend the cash.

I know each motorcycle is differetn, but any guesstmate is appreciated.

this web site shows a graph of this ferring
http://www.schultzengineering.us/

it says at 45mph bike consumes 2500 watts

My zero 2010 ds gets about 23miles and has a 60amp battery so thats 2.6amps per mile times 48v battery is 125 watts per mile??

I don't think my math is right? how can I look at that graph and guestmate how much range my zero ds2010 will improve?

Just curious will the zero motorcycles allow a very small gas generator like the Honda EU100oi which holds about one gallon of gas to charge bike as you ride it. they go for about $500 on ebay used
Honda’s EU 1000i generator produces up to 1,000 watts of power using 120V current. This is standard for generators in this class. A single gallon of fuel will allow the generator to provide continuous power to electronics and smaller appliances for up to 8.3 hours, easily outlasting much of the competition. During its 8.3 hours of continuous operation, an included inverter keeps power stable enough to charge laptops, tablets, and smartphones, all without power fluctuations that might otherwise damage the equipment. At a rated weight of just below 29 pounds, the EU1000i is easily Honda’s most portable model currently available.

and these generators are seriously quiet, you can easily talk to someone standing right next to it

think of this idea as the chevy volt equivalent of a motorcycle?

is the battery chemistry for 2012, 13 & 2014 the same?
zero's web site is pretty vague just stating that they are all li ion batteries.

I know the 2009 to 2011 used the same molicel batteries from Canada.

what is the next new big thing in battery technology and when might this be available in zero bikes?

Being an early adopter is tough. Why buy today's technology if a year or two down the road a new battery will go twice as far and weigh half as much?

I thought this was a very good price. Wish I had waited two years and bought this instead of my 2010.

i have no relationship to seller

took my motorcycle out of storage.
plugged it in
red light on charge controller blinks twice over and over
looked at charger controller manual and it says low voltage error.

hopefully my battery is not destroyed, how can I get this charged up and tested since the charger seems to not want to charge it?

thanks!

I know they have power booster battery packs for the 2014 modles, which can increase range, but this chart below look correct for REAL WORLD usage of the Dual Sport Bikes over the years?

2014 ds 71 miles
2013 ds 71 miles
2012 ds 55 miles
2011 ds 43 miles
2010 ds 22 miles

I personally own the 2010 DS and Zero really lied about the range being up to 50 miles. If I had known the real world millage was only around 22 of combined Hwy/ City I probably wouldn't have gotten it.  Too bad there is no easy battery upgrade available either!

what are the threaded holes in rear frame of 2010DS for? by rear seat?

8
Is there a way to hook up a smaller zero dirtbike type battery to the 2010 DS to give it more range. Seems like I'm always about 5 or 6 miles short of what I need and have to stop to forage for an electricity outlet somewhere and  drive back at 30mph or less if I want to get home with out the battery dying.

Home Brew / What are typical electric motor effcincy curves look like?
« on: October 18, 2011, 05:46:00 AM »
I've got a zero ds2010 and I've heard a bunch of people state that driving range is limited the faster you go. I'd like to see a speed vs motor efficiency curve. that way I'd know concretely what the best/optimal speed is. I'm guessing it is 25mph since that is what zero says will get you a 40mile range.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / 5w fuse keeps blowing out
« on: October 17, 2011, 09:08:58 AM »
I added this to my bike
http://www.soundoffrec.com/products/lights.aspx
it keeps your rear lights on all the time for better visibility.
it works great by the way, highly recommended.

I also bought some led blinking lights for safety reasons and added these to the same power supply (the rear break light) but when I turn those on the fuse lasts about 6 minutes before burning up.

what other power supply can I splice into to make my bike more safe?

11
what new features are you expecting?
I think a slightly higher capacity battery, electric car charging socket standard and better price will be on my wish list.

12
I know the batteries cost $3,000 and up. Hopefully in a few years they will be cheaper and higher capacity is what I always hear, but is there any truth to that hopefull statement?  Is battery technology really advancing that fast??

You can't even upgrade the 2010DS to the 2011DS battery, which seems strange. Zero told me the electronics are totally different between the two bikes.

13
can anyone recommend some good led safety strobe lights for zero?
any helmet recommendations as well?

14
can ds2010 be modified to be quick charged? or have SAE J1772 Charging Socket?

my electric company is offering it's cusotmers free recharing stations for any electric vechicle.
