Electric Motorcycle News / ClevelandMoto no longer a Zero dealer
« on: April 25, 2024, 07:15:00 PM »
ClevelandMoto is...was my local dealer where I bought my 2020 FXS.  As of a week or so, they are no longer a Zero dealer.  FYI for any of my brothers in NE Ohio.

Well this post didn't age well.  I don't see that bike listed on their page anywhere now.

But another outfit in Cleveland has sprung up to give it a shot.  We'll see if they're still around in a few years.

Electric Motorcycle News / Re: Zero laying off 10% of work force

Yesterday, I was at Elk Grove PowerSports. One of the employees there (Brian) was laid off from Zero. We must have BSed for two hours.

The takeaway I get from this is, after you spoke to someone who was laid off from Zero for 2 hours, you still want a Zero.  I consider that a positive endorsement.

I used to work at GTE Lenkurt in San Carlos, CA. They decided to save money by moving to ABQ, NM. That move caused them to go bankrupt. Yeah, they could get MUCH cheaper labor there. But couldn't find the same quality of employees as they could in the SF Bay Area. All the tech people are in places such as Silicon Valley. It's been that way for quite a while.

They might be splitting the difference?  Keeping design and engineering in CA, but move assembly to a lower cost area.  We shall see.

If so, that means we're unlikely to see any new motorcycle updates as well.

My opinion is they may be moving production overseas.  It's hard to compete in this segment with California wages.

I saw it posted on Reddit, but here is the source.  It's a NEWS video

General Discussion / Re: Are on-line motorcycle forums slowly dying?
« on: July 06, 2022, 06:57:08 PM »
As said above, forums are better for searching technical questions.  The downside of Facebook is the same questions get asked over and over because search is difficult.  And some questions get left unanswered by the technical experts because they're already done it.

Can someone screenshot it? When I first open the page I get a glimpse of a DS and the text "model year 23" but before it can load the page 404's.

It's a scroll page of content so would be hard to screenshot.  Do you subscribe to one of those VPN companies?  Try a different browser?

Sure, they're going to garner some negative feedback. But I expect, monetarily, this will be a net positive for them. Because people will buy it.

That depends on whether this initiative reduces the total overall sales of bikes.  They might make more money per bike, but sell less bikes if the PR continues to be bad.  This Yammie Noob video isn't the first rant I've seen about it.

One point he makes that I agree with is Zero motorcycles are already pretty expensive without shelling out $6000 more to get all the features enabled.  That puts it way above any other comparable motorcycle out there, including the arguably superior Livewire.  I like my Zero motorcycles, but they don't exude quality for the asking price.  At least Livewire (from what I've seen) and Energica (from what I've read) look the part for the $$.

Edit: But more importantly in the grand scheme of things, this is the video people will see, not our little rebuttal thread.  It's something we should care about since that drives mass perception.

(I'm looking down the steps of my basement and wondering how you got a motorcycle down there)

My FXS was at 65% I think back in November.  It was at 47% and I never charged it (but did check occasionally).  It was in a non-heated garage so it got pretty cold.

I just took it out for the first time this year, today.  Unusual day in the 80's here in Ohio.

I'd be happy if someone just made an aftermarket charger that fit the FXS stock charger location above 1000 watts.  Sigh...
