Alta had their owner's manual online and I have it saved somewhere.  Wandering around the Stark site I found a link to their owner's manual.   https://s3-stark-prod-public.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/manuals/varg_owners_manual.pdf  The part about storage is hard to believe for someone that has used Makita batteries and stored them in unheated places, they can be depleted in under 10 minutes on a leaf blower or chain saw, get real hot as only cooling is on the charger.

At any rate there is no Stark section on here.  I doubt Damon or Lightning have put out their owner's manual.  I don't really want to play put a deposit and then they can come out heavier than expected as is the case here.  If they make a model that is DOT approved, I guess I will be willing to go heavier than my ktm freeride but 240  pouinds is about all I want to go for a strictly dirt motorcycle.  These electric bikes have no neutral and getting unstuck pushing backwards is unlike an ice one with neutral.

KTM Electric Forum / sprocket and tire fitment
« on: July 22, 2022, 04:36:14 PM »
The origional sprocket is 11 teeth.  I got some others 2004 ktm 200exc is the sheet I got the part number.  The picture is of a 14 tooth.

For reference the bolt holding the spring washer on the sprocket shaft is normal right hand thread but has blue loctite.  Nothing in the owners manual I could find about changing the sprocket.

I wanted to know how big a tire would fit, or if a common tire for me and ordering at rocky mountain atv would also work here.  It barely fits 15 miles later no noticable contact with the chain.   IRC M5B 140 80 18 I run this one opposite the arrow.  More like a Trelborg from years goe by.

The existing chain worn from wear and the new 14 tooth sprocket did make some noises so I went back to the used 11.

I am getting about 20 miles on 3.75 kwh from the outlet.  It actually used just over 4 kwh when run down until it did not go any more.  I will get a new chain at some time and have some old but hardly used street tires to try.

Electric Motorcycle News / FIM E-Xplorer World Cup.
« on: January 25, 2022, 09:14:15 PM »
I noticed this from a link at the bottom of Richard230's news of Yamaha scooter news lately.  It is also being discussed elsewhere on the internet.

https://www.fimexplorer.com/fim-launches-e-xplorer

As I read the articles The FIM approves the rules.  The manufacturers request to play.  10 teams allowed one male one female per team.  So far I beileve Mugen, Cake and one other perhaps SurRon have applied.

After reading about the new rules for parts that need to be homolgomated to play in formula one ice racing (not frozen water) and the decision to give Ducati 3 years of MotoE all bikes the same this likely will give them a less pressure venue to decide what needs be available to privateers in the motocross and road racing for example.

General Discussion / Kill O Watt similar for 240 volts
« on: March 16, 2021, 09:41:55 PM »
I got a Kill o watt meter off ebay for pretty cheap like $30.  I can use it for my Husqvarna and Makita battery tools.  Is there something similar that works for single phase 240 volt like I need to recharge my Ktm freeride?  I can see used meters like the utility reads to get a monthly bill are quite inexpensive but I would need a box and a wire and plugs.  Would have to do artihmetic every time.  Chances are I will need the plugs and some wire anyway. I would think there is something for other parts of the world where the standard is 250 volts like is called for on my charger.

Thanks

Fran

KTM Electric Forum / just a few pictures to liven up this sub section

I got one of these 2017 bikes, not unusual I get things that are not a marketing success.  Actually I think it is a good compromise for ground clearance seat height no linkage relative simplicity.

The green cloth wads are to keep my knees away from ridges in the shrouds.
That giant above ground swimming pool like thing is for water used in natural gas "fracking".  Sure windmills seem more what they like in the advertising but I will consider mine run on natural gas.  The pad during the hydraulic fracturing phase is also in the background of one picture.
