I'm afraid we're talking about different products. The 2014 SR is not directly compatible with the Oxford grips. I suspect that you have another model.
I tried to hook the grips up to a 12V battery and it worked flawlessly.

I suspect the unclean signal on the DC port is what's causing issue. My (limited) understanding is that it's not uncommon in DC-DC conversion to output a rough signal. I will hook up an oscilloscope to see what it really looks like.
It shouldn't be a big deal to filter out with a diode and a capacitor of the right size.

You should use [L C R ] to filter the high frequency noise the DC/DC will do. If you see the frequency with the oscilloscope it should be easy to find a fitting filter.

I have a very embarrassing confession to make.
As I was making my calculations for a low pass filter I realized that there's one more thing that could cause the fuse to blow... Long story short, the splitter I used (and spliced) uses a red wire for negative(!) and a black wire for positive(!) and I, in my ignorance, assumed that it was the opposite and never bothered to check it.
After reversing the connection, it all works just fine. The Oxford grips are toasty fits really well together with the Zero hand guards. (No cutting needed if you use them together)

It's funny, I was actually headed toward an auto parts store when it suddenly occurred to me that the place that would have them would be West Marine. I turned around and went there (I live in a boating town). I even had a selection to choose from. Anybody that doesn't have the store nearby can order any of their items over the web.

It's the same one that can be bought for $5 at the local car parts store.

Amazon is selling an SAE plug to double USB connector that fits in the 12V outlet space. Don't recall how many AMPs it can deliver. It's less than $20.

I have a Zero S 2013 and wanted to install a USB Socket in order to charge my Smartphone while driving; As I don't like it to cut off suitable connectors on a new motorcycle I've searched for the connector. I found that the suitable male plug is a Sumitomo TS Sealed Series 2,3 II (090II) 2pin male

So I found out that Buell uses this plug for a cigarette lighter socket on their bikes:

So I ordered it directly from Harley Davidson and cut off the lighter socket to connect it directly to my USB adaptor.

They use expensive sealed connectors but many are left unplugged with pins exposed all over the place.

morimaxx, can you take a closer picture of the lighter socket with and without the cap on.  Also what is the diameter of the threaded end I'm wondering if it will fit in the socket that zero use for the lighter socket?

I guess it's the same. The cap of the lighter socket looks like the one on Zero Homepage. The outer diameter of the threaded is 26,5 mm, could it be a 1 inch thread ?

Before I wised up on West Marine for a weather proof socket on my trike, I bought the one that Zero sells for my FX. It looks exactly like the one in these photos.
