Title: FXS - groaning sound disappeared after a couple of rainy days
Post by: Moto7575 on April 05, 2019, 02:29:03 PM
I had the annoying groaning sound, and I tried to use some belt dressing as proposed in the unofficial manual. It is a form a grease - I did not use a silicon spray because silicon spray is silicon oil which includes petroleum components that might harm the belt. At least the belt dressing is specifically made and tested for rubber belts...

It did not work so well (maybe because I applied the belt dressing on the belt, not just on the engine). In fact it increased the noise somehow.

Now after a couple of rainy days the bike is totally silent... So I wonder if just washing the belt is not enough. Any point on this ?

Silicone not silicon and don't do that. The belt works best clean well tensioned and free of any lube. Actually the belt kind of sucks. Get a chain.

More complex than this. There is a sound problem, possibly solved by spraying silicon oil on the engine sprocket because of a sensor humidity.

My FXS had a terrible groaning noise when I bought it. Turned out the belt tension was way too high from the factory. I bought a proper gauge and set it correctly, no more groans.
