BMW seems intent on introducing honestly bizarre prototypes.

https://electrek.co/2021/09/06/bmw-unveils-high-speed-electric-bicycle-with-300-km-of-range-plus-an-electric-motorcycle/

A 600 180-mile range e-bicycle and a 37mph top-speed motorcycle.  Both of course in their weird zebra livery and with no storage or faring.

Light on specs, anyone know what they're talking about?

General Discussion / WMC duct motorcycle for land speed record

A very interesting design that tries to break up the profile of the bike to add stability.  White Motorcycle Concepts has a two-motor, ducted low frontal area bike.  They thing they can get a land speed record.

It certainly looks slick!

Which are real?  Which are really the price they say?  Which actually go the speed they say they do?

I wonder about advertising unconnected from a round of funding or actually shipping...

So I am replacing my tank for aesthetics - I have a yellow 2014 tank and I like yellow better than black.

I realized tanks have these wings on the right and left that are empty.  So I have this idea of using this space!  I'm trying to figure out how to hide a tool box and a J1772 port there.

But I realize to be safe there needs to be a transfer switch or disconnect.  My initial plan was to just use the plug as a disconnect... Then I was thinking of taxing an Arduino to operate some relays...
But then I realized there's things like https://www.donrowe.com/PowerMax-PMTS-30-Automatic-Transfer-Switch-p/pmts-30.htm
But I don't know if it'd work since the power is usually off?

Anyone have any suggestions?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Zero S - how I use my Mode button
« on: April 11, 2021, 12:42:19 PM »
So after five thousand miles, I have gotten into a groove with some features.  And one I've been using more is the Mode button.  When I first started riding, I mostly used Eco.  Then I started using Custom, changing the braking and throttle power to my needs with weather and skill.  But the mode button was kinda... Not helping?

It only works with the throttle slack for two seconds, so it's a little laggy.  But... There are times this is useful.  See, it always goes through the modes in the same cycle.

Eco
Custom
Sport
Throttle
Power
Low
Middle
High
Throttle
Regen
High
Low
Middle
Brake
Regen
Middle
High
Low

Then I realized that how I had been riding... Could make this useful.  See, while going down a long hill, I could flick through them - since I wasn't using throttle - and slip through three levels of throttle regen.  Not just three levels of throttle power!  Same for braking, if I were to encounter different surfaces like when I go over the hill, suddenly I go from sunny to foggy, or dry to snow.

Anyhow, being able to flick through them low-middle-high is kinda cool and useful.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / SDS platform fastener replacement?
« on: April 10, 2021, 04:48:28 AM »
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to replace the wood screws in the plastics?  They're really a bother.  I know they're cheap, but some of mine don't even fit in right, and I really hate the idea of screwing into the plastic every time I need to fix the lights.

I know some other bikes use different quick fasteners but I don't know anything about them or if they would work for this.

It's neat seeing these gear heads riding an electric.

I don't think he ever got it out of Eco mode, tho, he didn't seem to know you could customize the settings at all.

General Discussion / Are 4C batteries around the corner?

Silicon doping seems to be the new hotness that's being tamed in lithium ion batteries, and there's evidence that batteries with high charge rates are on the horion.

This guy has a great series on batteries, specifically Tesla's experiments, and the different difficulties that materials bring.  Each video can't,cover everything, of course.  His speculation about Battery day was spot-on, though, so his guesses have been good so far.  Makes for good viewing if you wonder about the different words being bandied about.

Aptera!  Only technically a motorcycle like an Arcimoto, but still a really sexy vehicle.

Hard to say more, as a little runabout, this is the way to do it.  It should get better miles per watt hour than my motorcycle!
