General Discussion / Re: Gotta have this Helmet!
« on: August 13, 2014, 07:57:43 PM »
I'm betting on NUVIZ as an alternative, because it's a helmet add-on, and helmets are breakable things. It doesn't include a rear-view camera, but the FAQ has a good point that they could integrate with a camera mounted on the tail of the bike. Both approaches have merits, at least.

rearview on the helmet is so nice though, as you move your head you can "look around" behind you

The good news is that nothing really sneaks up on you since battery depletion is predictable. Plus, you can slow way down and the range increases dramatically so you could limp home. I have a Prius V, and it doesn't really matter how I drive the car, I get very close to 43 mpg. With the Zero, I can get from 40 miles to well over 100 miles on a full charge depending on how fast I ride. I can get 10 miles per bar if I slow to under 30 mph, or I can go 80 mph and get 4 miles per bar.

same thing happend to me, though I wasn't doing it on purpose, I ran out (luckily) about 50 feet from my driveway... the highway is what killed me, I was going 70-80mph till it over heated and cut me down to around 55-50mph while it cooled down.

it's an unknown phenomenon here in the virgin islands...

I love my FX, I've had it fully submerged in water, I've jumped it, I've put 3,000+ miles on it and ride it almost every day, I also have a short commute to work (there and back is maybe a quarter charge).

the 13FX 5.7 has PLENTY of power (that second battery adds a lot of "top end" power, I've ridden with just one when there were some battery issues earlier this year).

there's a couple of things to watch out for that I've experienced, listen for a "clicking" while riding, it's an easy fix and well known, but if you have it you need it treated. the rear brakes will probably squeel, mine still do it a little now, but I never tried to correct it.

if you're not carful with the throttle the front wheel will lift off the ground all the way to about 35-40 MPH, the bike is VERY light for it's power so be aware of that.

other than that, I think you'll enjoy it a lot!

Just hit the 3,000 mile mark on my FX today during my morning ride, I'm hesitant to mod the bike; it's great already and reliable as hell.

Thats ok, you can use my pic... my FX isn't NEARLY that clean anymore.... haha

I have about 3,000 miles on my FX so far, I'll have to check my stats and post back here.

I've been in the IT industry for 15 years, currently the infrastructure manager for the Virgin Islands National Guard, I also own my own business down here www.cruzancowgirls.com (guided horse tours of St Croix in the USVI).

I'd consider myself a technical person by trade, by hobby I used to race cars and have owned quite a few 4 wheel toys, I grew up racing bikes at tiny tracks in Oregon and since I moved to the USVI I was happy to pick up another bike, so far I have only missed 2 days due to rain since owning my 2013 FX... and everyone on the island loves the bike, I own the loudest and quietest street legal vehicles on St Croix... haha

I parked next to an AC unit on a 90* day (that's where the electrical outlets are!), I'm pretty sure the AC heat exhaust plus the hot day overheated the bike as I came out to a fast blinking green light & temp light and a bike that wouldn't move, I moved it into the shade and then came out an hour later to ride it home for lunch.

the bike worked fine for about a mile, then I couldn't go past 40 mph, then 30 mph, and right as I turned onto my street it cut power all together (luckily it's mostly down hill to my house from there)

I costed it home, parked it under a tree and took my truck to work; tried it out later that night after I got home and it worked fine for a quick ride & I rode it to work this AM with no issues...

She just don't like heat!

The quick charge connector is hidden behind the gray formex panel.

I cut a slot in the formex and have used mine ;)

Bike works fine.. I'll have to sync my phone to it (assuming it works, I have that in a bag of rice in the fridge still) to see if there's any errors.

I did see a brief flicker of the warning triangle when I charged it lastnight.
