I purposely didn't charge my bike in order to take measurements, and ended up surprised to find the bike died at 17%, leaving me stranded on the side of the road for the first time in 10 years of owning Zero's.   :o

At 20% the bike really started limping, and got slower and slower over the next few miles until at 17% the contactor opened and the SOC dropped to 0%.

Sounds similar to the symptoms I experienced on my 2015 DS after around 30,000 miles - obvious range reduction and early limp mode. They replaced the battery under warranty with a 13 kWh. During the time I had the new battery Zero came out with their new charging recommendations. Prior to that I was following their recommendation to always keep it plugged-in (except for long storage).

Even with following the new recommendations the 13 kWh needed replacing (still under warranty, but just barely) at 49,000 miles. Then I was upgraded to the 14.4 kWh battery. I'm now at 57,000 miles with no issues. So only 8,000 miles on the 14.4 battery so far. I've been pretty careful with not charging it over 80%.

Any source for Atlas Throttle Lock aftermarket friction pads? I know Atlas sells them separately but they are pricey and I find that I need a different size than the ones they offer.

The thinnest ones from Atlas are too thin. The next size up is too thick. Stacking two of the thinnest ones is too thick.

My bike is a 2015 DS.

Thx

Any update on this?

My SR is a 2021. No helmet lock to remove.

I’ll see what I can do to document. I take advantage of so many other people’s work to document their processes but I really suck at doing it myself. I’ll manage something. Just might not be as well done as other stuff you’ve seen.  I do promise to put whatever I create somewhere other than Facebook, though. ;-)

Let us know how long it takes from the time you order it from AF1 and when you receive it.

Also it would be awesome if you could document your install, or at least take pics to point out any tricky parts.

What year bike do you have? Will you have to remove the helmet lock?

Well, my dealer did quote me a same day install, but was marking up the price of the charge tank and adding a decent fee for the install.  I don't fault them, they gotta make a buck.  But when I'm capable of doing it myself, and they are 2.5 hours away, saving the money and the time, energy, and expense of getting the bike there, starts to look really good.  So I ordered the tank from AF1 today.  And threw in a windshield with the money I'm saving.  :)

Wish me luck on the install!

Any update on the first group buy?

I think the fair way would be to go in order of who originally responded to this thread.

I'll work with Sayyed and StableOfZeros to aquire more in June.

You mind posting a pic of what you were sent? Or a link to an unboxing vid?

I  got my charger from ElCon this week, not part of the group buy, but just for clarification purposes:

The charger comes with a Sumitomo AC connector but it also includes a Sumitomo to NEMA 5-15P standard AC plug cable.

For the DC side, they provided a 4 foot long adapter from the Anderson Gray connector on the charger to the Brown one the Zero has by the motor for $25. Apparently these were sourced from Zero.

So it is pretty much plug and play.

The only issue I am having is I can not get it to charge without the OBC.  The reason I bought it was to have an option if (when) the OBC dies.

So for now I am charging at 4.6 kW @ 220v plugged into my 10-30R dryer plug with a Parkworld 10-30P to NEMA 5-20R adapter and a NEMA 5-15 1-3 splitter to plug both the OBC and the ElCon into the 220 circuit.

So that Elcon page shows 6 models beginning with HK-J-H. Which one is for the Zero?

Hope this is acceptable for me to post this.

I know I'm new to the forums - but would like to see if there is any interest in a group buy in some of the Elcon 3.3kw external chargers.

https://www.elconchargers.com/catalog/item/9034090/10295140.htm

I have spoken with Sayyed @ Elcon quite a bit.

This charger fully programmed for our Zero is $750 + $45 shipping, when purchased alone.

If we can get commitment to 5 or more, the price drops substantially to $638 per charger (plus shipping.)

I plan to purchase 2, and I'm fairly confident from speaking with other members that there is plenty of interest for us to hit the 5 mark and save some money.

Post up if you're interested!

Also if this breaking forum rules in some way, I apologize. Please let me know how I can set this up with our members.

In the past I've charged two Hollywood Electric 2.5 KW Elcons off the aux port. So 2.5 + 2.5 = 5 KW.

Is there any reason to think two of these 3.3 KW Elcons can't be charged together off of the aux port (6.6 KW)?

I'd be interested in at least one if it's "plug and play". On the AC side I'd prefer C-19.

Anyone know what the 1C is for the 14.4 battery? Wondering if I get the 6KW Charge Tank installed and dub-J with two of these 3.3 Elcon's whether I'd remain within the 1C rating. My onboard is dead and I have no plans to replace it.

Thanks for the pic. I might do something similar if I can get another dust cap.

Don - Can you show how you permanently mounted the Y cable? More importantly, can you send link to where to buy dust caps for the Y connector? I ride bumpy dirt roads so the dust caps will need to stay on in those conditions.
I don't ride my SR in the dirt and I have the sidebag mounting bars  to mount to, so this probably won't do you any good,

I simply have the Y cable tie-wrapped to the mounting bars for the side bags.

The smaller connectors to the left of the left foot peg are for my Elcon chargers. They go to the batt contacts on the motor controller.  I charge this bike as high as around 8.3 KW by using the two Elcons along with the two Delta  Q's:

What's the procedure?  Plug in charger, turn key on, then off.  That's it?
I might pick up the DeltaQ quick charger.
The QC connector is just above the motor. I find it a small hassle to get to, so I have mine connected to a "Y" cable mounted on the bike so I can then easily use one or two QCs as well as the OBC as I am now doing.

The differences will be:

1. The bikes's key will have to be on for the charging to start. As soon as it starts charging, the bike can be switched off and charging will continue. This is only if you cannot use the OBC as well. On the QC, when the top light is on, you're charging. That may take ten seconds or so after everything is connected up correctly.

2. The QC is a little slower than the OBC. The OBC is around 1.4 KW charging, each QC is only 1.0 KW charging. But if you add a Y cable and use two QC's you will charge at 2.0 KW which will then be a little faster charging than your OBC or twice as fast as using one QC.

3. To charge on the road you will have to bring the QC with you.

4. The QCs are MUCH more reliable than the OBC. While I have heard of several OBCs crapping out, I have yet to hear of a QC crapping out.

The Uhaul motorcycle trailer is $15 / day. I've used it to trailer my Zeros a dozen times over the last 5 years on interstate highways for over 250 mile trips each time. They work very well. My tow vehicle is a 2005 Toyota Matrix. I find it very convenient to rent these. They have a front wheel chock.

Plastics still available? If so, do you have photos of their condition?

The only things left are the white plastics. Thank You.
