Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2013 FX hill climb comparison
« on: December 02, 2015, 05:51:54 AM »
LOL I'm always couple of years behind the curve but i finally have moved into the 2013 bike with my first FX. I've been wanting this machine for a while. It probably the best bike for my riding style. Dirt and more dirt. The 2012 DS was good and i love this bike but my FX is much suited for the off road riding

Since I've had her I've modified the rear brake to a LH hand brake, chain drive and LED lights.

I really like the hill climbing capability of these bikes and the FX is very comanding on the hills.

Here's a little video i made today, I was riding with my buddy on his Sherco 300 we did some hill climbing. This was not a race but it pretty funny how close the two bike ended up.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / 2-4 flashing on my 2012 DS
« on: October 22, 2015, 05:42:40 AM »
Hi All

Sorry to say after 10,000 km Im starting to get the issue of 2-4 fault code.

Cause: Battery Management System (BMS) Throttle Disable
Solution: Contact Zero or your dealer.

I was wondering if anyone has anything new for this issue. The bike had been working flawlessly till now. last week I had the first time motor growling problem and cut out encoder issue and this evening the BMS 2-4 issue. No throttle enable bike will not move.

The bike has been stored inside and plug in most of the time.

Will the two BMS reset buttons work for this issue? Who has done this?

I still under warranty but it is still SAD!  :'(

My dealer is less than capable kind of worried, the last bike went in took many months to them even look at it. Good old Freedom Cycle! I got no problem contacting Zero if they get to slow forsure not the type to put up with BS!

Any help or info appreciated.
Jerry

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / 2012 to 2013 motor upgrade info

I've started this post to put together a list of items getting ready to start working on my winter project remotoring my 2012 DS with the new style Zero motors.

Old motor

New motor ZF 75-7 or ZF 75-5

Few points I have already learn:

-Shaft are on the wrong side or turn wrong direction. Fix rev sin/cos.
-motor mount different. Fix make adapter mount.
-Secon 4 supports this but will require setup for ZF 75- motor.

Few Question;

Motor cost?
Do i use the 75-5 or the 75-7 motor?

Any help appreciated

Thanks Jerry

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / Dirting up my 2011 DS
« on: September 02, 2014, 03:26:39 AM »
Hi guys

I bought this 2011 DS couple of weeks a go it was Dead! zero volts on the battery. The previous owner said he left the key on and killed the batt by accident. So at that point it was going to be part and the price was right.

Well the bike was in great shape so figure I would see what I could do with the batt. After some reseach I figured out how the recover the cell in tyhe batt.

Its alive and it work good

Here's the tread. http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=3875.0

Well now I have the bike operational and I decided to make a off road machine.

Here the start of the mods

-Removed the charge less 20lbs
-made skid and gards to keep mud out of internals
-removed the read fender parts and plan to install 2010 DS on pice fender
-cut down fo gas tank to be more dirt freindly

To do:

-make a gard to keep the mud off the motor in the wheel well.
-replace the head lamp with LED bulbs.
-Moose bars for the handle bars

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / 2011 DS 4.4 KW battery problem
« on: August 05, 2014, 08:56:21 AM »
I just picked up a 2011 DS with a drained battery. I know the BMS and the charger will not allow the battery to charge because it is out of balance. Has anyone ever been able to charge these cell separately back to a balanced state. I have charger for my RC li-ion batteries and could set it to charge one or a few cell with a balancer.

If you have some suggestion please pm or post me.

Thanks In advance

OK so now I have remove the big Delt Q from the bike and reduced the weight by 20lb. I combined the two Deltas with a quick charge cable to make 220v 24amp charger.

So now i looking for smaller maybe 6 amp charger. Please if you have any suggestion shoot me link.

Thanks Jerry

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / DS mods
« on: July 21, 2014, 06:19:14 AM »
So here's some of the custom mods to my bike, big charger removed skid plate removed. I will at the plastic side pieces later but will make them removable for off-roading. I like to add smaller charge later to keep as acc on or off unit. I also modified the tail light plate assembly.

I will get the new skid plate powder coated.

I was wondering if any one has tried the higher gear with the 28t 2013 drive pulley instead of the 25T stock pulley. Any data?

Cheers Jerry

Hi Guys

I have question: Is it normal for power to pulse at sustained speeds. Acceleration and deceleration is fine, only this pulse when sustaining power settings.

Has anyone seen this issue before? Is this a problem? What causes this?

Thanks in advance, Jerry

I had to drop the hammer on the new 2012 DS from the dealer here, the test drive i took last summer was too much. Sold my XU and not looking back. It was a fun bike but looks like i can pick up the DS before the weekend.

Can't wait!  Jerry

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / 2012 XU handle bar mod
« on: November 18, 2013, 06:17:08 AM »
Hi guy

If you feel the bars on the xu are too high and if you want to duck down and reduce some drag it feel uncomfortable. Here's an option. Just put them on backwards and rotate them to the aft of the bike.

Original bars

Backwards and rotated aft and shortend by 3" moved the kill switch inboad of the brake lever to shorten the bars as much as possible.
