Elcon 2.5kW chargers for sale
« on: November 17, 2013, 10:49:15 AM »

I have 2 Elcon 2.5kW chargers set up for a 2012 Zero S with a J1772 connection available for purchase.  They have served me well and work perfectly.  I'm selling them so I can upgrade.

Parts include:
2 Elcon 2.5kW chargers
2 Connections to side & rear of battery
1 J1772 connection with splitter (to use both chargers at the same time).

Total original cost was $2,600.  I'm willing to part with everything for about $2000, but make an offer if you're close and we'll see if we can make a deal.  I've been watching a lot of Fast and Loud lately, so I'm willing to listen to offers.  Fast charging sure is nice!

Let me know if you are interested in all or some of the parts.  One of the Elcon's traveled across the country with me on the Ride the Future Tour so it has some sentimental value.  :)

If you were in Europe I would be tempted but postage would be prohibitive.  If for whatever reason the buyer doesn't want it, I would take the J1772 splitter for a reasonable price if you were willing to post.

P.s. I added you on Facebook if you were wondering who it was, name is Paul.

Curious - with a set of 2.5 kW chargers each drawing over 20A, is this hard on the batteries? Are they designed to handle that much current?
Can you run that much current through the J1172 adapter that Zero sells?
Thanks!

oobflyer, Terry Hershner has found that fast charging has little effect on the batteries and that keeping them at a high state of charge has a greater effect.  He has only quick charged his batteries for more than 50,000 miles and they still hold a full charge.

The J1772 connection for this setup would need to be purchased through Hollywood Electrics since the connection is different from the plug on the motorcycle.

I used this setup to ride 250 miles in one day with 3 stops for charging a few weeks ago.  Riding time and charging time were both about 4.5 hours on a beautiful day.  I regularly go up to Bear Mountain and ride 50 miles to get there, charge up while eating, then ride through the state park, charge for an hour, and get home.  They definitely give me more freedom!

That's annoying that Zero wants us to keep the battery plugged-in if it's that bad for the battery. I will continue to keep it plugged-in at least until the warranty expires, at leas if I have an issue I will be able to tell I did everything right.
