Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / DigiNow Back in Business!
« on: September 25, 2019, 05:15:36 AM »
Just got an email that DigiNow is shipping their v2.5 charger set-ups out again - woo hoo!!
I was lucky to get mine last year - I love the convenience of just pulling up to any J1772 station and plugging in to quick-charge. Glad to hear that their back - for two reasons:
1) They're an awesome product that you will love to have on your Zero and,
2) If I have any problems with mine I can reach out to them ;-)     [I've had no problems whatsoever - I've had my set-up for almost a year now]

It looks like they moved from the original website (diginow.it) to the indeigogo website - check it out:

Lightning / Lightning Open House
« on: July 11, 2019, 10:01:31 AM »
I'm planning to go to the open house on the 27th (7-27-2019).
I asked the question via Facebook, "Will there be test-rides at the open house event?"
Answer, "Test-rides will be scheduled later".

But, at least we can see the new bike and at hopefully sit on the thing.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Charging the SR/F at 12 kW
« on: May 08, 2019, 10:05:55 AM »
I'm thinking that the only way to do this (since public J1772 stations are 6.6 kW) is via a 50A NEMA 14-50 plug, like some people have as a dryer outlet in their garage, or at an RV park.
240V x 50A = 12000W
Will we start looking for RV parks (like Benswing Rich), rather than car-charging stations now?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Who has emotorwerks DigiNow Charger?
« on: February 26, 2016, 09:22:17 AM »
This was mentioned on the recent post about ChaDeMo charging:

http://www.motorcycle.com/features/diginow-zero-super-charger-2.html

http://www.emotorwerks.com/index.php/store-juicebox-ev-charging-stations/dc-charging-systems/10-smartcharge-12000-a-12kw-universal-voltage-ev-charger-fully-assembled-tested/category_pathway-17

Seems more elegant, and more efficient (12 kW!) than carrying around 3 or 4 Delta-Q chargers (5 kW Max).   Just wondering if anyone has one - what has your experience been? Do you recommend it?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Are Some "Error" Codes Normal?
« on: July 17, 2015, 02:09:07 AM »
I know when I turn on my SR with the kill switch off I see the error code 44 and if I turn the bike on with the kickstand down the error code 45 shows up.
But I'm also seeing 25 (Contactor Open Warning) and 49 (Contactor Open Disable) each time I turn the bike on. The bike then seems to run normally.
I just got it back from the factory today - maybe I'm being paranoid - or more likely I just didn't watch for errors each time I turned the bike on.
Do these codes display on your bikes when you power up?
Thanks

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / My "Big" 4th of July Ride
« on: July 03, 2015, 12:01:34 AM »
I'm leaving tomorrow morning for my "Big" ride to Hollister. It will be over 200 miles roundtrip, not including the 100-mile-ride with Terry Hershner on Saturday.
I'll be charging in Patterson, Gilroy, and Pleasanton - it should be fun - I'll post some pictures here and on the facebook page later this weekend.
Happy 4th of July everyone!

I stole this idea from another blog (http://www.fjrforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=102492) to use with a Zero with the PowerTank.

I used a 3/32" vinyl-covered steel cable (18" long), plus the crimps to make the loops. I spent a total of about $2 (at ACE Hardware).

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Charging at 4 kW
« on: June 21, 2015, 07:57:36 PM »
I got my free Delta-Q "Quic" charger in the mail yesterday (along with a Zero riding jacket and a pair of gloves). I hooked it up, along with the other two Delta-Q chargers - for a total of 4 kW of charging.
The bike charged from 87% to 97% in about 20 minutes. I'll be testing the setup again soon :-)

When I left work tonight the sun was low in the sky, the winds were picking up and traffic was light. I decided to make the trip home a brief one. I leaned into the curve of the freeway on-ramp and opened up the throttle. I flew north at speeds between 80 and 100 MPH for about 20 miles. Whether at 80 or 98 MPH, the bike glided along effortlessly - much like a wing-suited skydiver silently screaming down the slope of some steep Swiss mountain.
Finally the flashing red temperature light came on, but I only had to slow to 75 MPH for a mile or so before it disappeared.
This thing is just amazing.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Mirror Extenders
« on: April 27, 2015, 09:49:19 AM »
I bought a pair of mirror extenders for my '15 SR - I can see (behind me) clearly now  ;-)

The left side has reversed thread - these are actually made for a Yahama, but fit perfectly on the Zero.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2015 SR Front Wheel Vibration
« on: April 03, 2015, 12:35:14 AM »
This was mentioned in other threads - thought I'd start a separate one dedicated to this issue, in case others are experiencing the same problems.

When I picked up my new bike a couple of months ago I noticed a vibration from the front wheel that occurs specifically while using the front brake and specifically while the bike is slowing down between 20 MPH and 5 MPH. Along with this vibration is a 'click' or a 'clunk' sound just before coming to a complete stop. I found information here on the forum about the steering head bolt/bearings - and confirmed it with a motorcycle mechanic friend of mine before taking the bike back to the dealership. The dealership tightened the steering head bolt and the 'clunk' sound is better (It still occurs on hard stops), but the vibration is still there exactly as before.

Meanwhile - I started using the rear brake more than before - to try to put less stress on the front brakes (less vibration). However, when I started using the rear brakes more aggressively I noticed a loud scraping sound while slowing down from about 5 MPH to a stop. I'm not sure if this is something new, or something I just didn't notice before. Could it be the new brake pads just not 'boken in' yet? OR could it have to do with the ABS system? I never had a bike with ABS before.

Incidentally - I've ridden all kinds of bikes during my 45 yrs of riding and I've never had these kinds of problems - it's puzzling and a bit frustrating.

In any case I've taken it back to the dealership twice now - no luck. I'm taking it back again this weekend for a third try. I'll post results here.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Charging - Doing the Math
« on: March 23, 2015, 11:59:40 PM »
I'm confused by the numbers while charging.  According to the label on the Quic charger it has an output of 9A, but it is drawing 12.5A from the outlet (this seems too much of a difference to be inefficiency/heat loss).

Also - When I plugged both chargers into a 20A circuit I did not trip any circuit breakers - is the bike really drawing 25A from a 20A circuit?

WAIT - just realized that I made the assumption that the offboard 'Quic' charger is the same as the onboard charger (they were the same on my 2012). I'll have to repeat the Kil-O-Watt test with each charger separately. I'll try it later today.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Give Side Case Installation - Finishing Up
« on: February 22, 2015, 10:08:58 PM »
I got most of the installation done (the cases didn't come with instructions), but I'm not sure about the brackets that connect across between the cases at the rear - can someone with the Givi cases post a couple of pictures of the details of those brackets showing how they connect? Thanks!

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / My First "Long" Ride on my 2015 SR
« on: February 17, 2015, 10:16:50 AM »
I took advantage of my day off of work today (President's day woo-hoo!) and of the nice weather (70F!) to ride my new toy on a longer ride.

I headed east up into the foothills to try some twisties - which were a blast. Boy that torque is nice while leaning and exiting the corners  :-)

After 33 miles and a decrease in battery capacity from 100% to 62% I stopped for lunch. The restaurant had a 20A outlet outside - so I asked if I could plug in while eating. The waitress gave me a blank stare, but noded in the affirmative (Thanks La Tierra!)

With a full stomach and a 78% charge, I headed back down to the valley and rode another 50+ miles to a friends house so he could check out the bike and test-ride it (he was blown away). I arrived there with 22% left on the dash, but I charged for another hour back up to 35% - which got me back home (30 miles) with just 6% charge left in the battery.

So I rode a total of 119 miles using 125% of the battery capacity. Not bad. I rode at "freeway" speeds between 55 and 65 MPH, mostly in Eco mode (also experimented with the Custom mode). I'm sure the claimed range of 94 miles (70 MPH Hwy) is exaggerated (why do they always do that!?), but compared to my 2012 it's a significant improvement. Not only is range improved, but the bike is much more comfortable (seat and suspension), handling is improved (cornering is as is should be). This bike has a look and feel of a "standard" established gasoline powered bike (without all of the racket of an ICE drivetrain).

I'm very happy with the bike and will enjoy riding it for a long, long time :-)
