Pics and Vids / Modifying a 2016 Zero DSR: Chain Conversion Videos
« on: January 16, 2019, 01:47:58 AM »
Hello EMFers,

Been a long time since I last posted.  I posted videos of my experience during my 2016 Zero DSR chain conversion. May this be an insightful contribution to the community. I know I am not the first to do a chain conversion on a 2016 Zero DSR, however, I don't mind sharing my thoughts and curiosities I encountered along the way and maybe they will help someone who is interested in doing this conversion in the future.

Here is a link to a playlist I assembled:

Hello electrics-heads!

At this time, this is no more than a curiosity that I have been trying to ignore for the better part of a week now. I am toying with the idea of relocating my controller to where the tank bag used to be located on my DSR. I will attach pics of my measurements, but I don't even know if it would physically fit in the space. Before I go through the labor of unbolting the controller, disconnecting the wiring and fishing it up and forward I wanted to get feedback from people who are smarter and or more experienced than I with electrical components and the concerns that surround them.

Please feel free to add your thoughts and concerns. Please be gentle and understand this is, at this time, just a curiosity, and I am not "dead-set" on getting this done.

My concerns:
-Will the controller get hot enough to damage components that are currently "in the tank area"?
-Will the controller get hot enough to damage the brake lines (or brake fluid itself, for that matter) that run along the frame under the tank / above the battery?
-Will the cooling fins get hot enough to make me uncomfortable on long rides.

My thoughts:
-My motivation would be strictly cosmetic. Clean up the tail, and make the "empty space" where my tank used to be, look more "electric" by having the cooling fins exposed up top.
-To contradict my above statement, as of the last day or two, I kind of really like the fins where they are, they look cool (heh no pun intended) back there.
-If the controller can be moved, maybe that would allow a little more freedom for moving the seat lower, or even lowering the bike and not worrying about impacting the controller under full compression (a bit of a stretch, I know). [Disclaimer: this thought was more for the community at large, and not directed to my own bike]

Thanks in advance for any input you guys would like to share.
I did try to search on this topic, but was not able to find anything relevant, I apologize if I missed something.

pinaero

(p.s. I hope you can see the measurements, I just learned of the size limit for attachments)

Gents,

I just wanted to post this here for anyone who might find it useful. The video is a bit long, but I felt compelled to have it "uncut" to show true measure of the temps along the ride. I don't expect any of you to sit through it all so, if you are compelled to skim the video, the 33 minute mark is where you can find the "happy place."

Thanks for viewing and as always, hope you enjoy the video

Hello,

A simple video I wanted to share about my thoughts of the loaner 2014 Zero SR. I was given the loaner to ride while my 2016 Zero DSR waits for a new control board for the BMS. A firmware update bricked the bike.  :'(

Anywho, hope you enjoy the watch.

Hello Forumers,

My 2016 Zero DSR is still at the dealer because a firmware update bricked my bike. Something like the firmware update fried the board for the BMS and Zero has to warranty the part. That was back on April 30th. While I wait for the bike to be repaired the dealer put me on a 2014 SR. Well as my luck would have it, this bike has issues, too. After the events that transpired in this video, I called the dealer and they told me to hang onto the broken bike, and they would call me when they hear back from Zero about my DSR. /insert-angriest-emoji-ever-created-by-man-here.

Anyway the point of this thread is to maybe build a knowledge base around this issue. I have posted a video hoping to invite conversation surrounding the issue to maybe gain some knowledge for myself and others that may be having the same or similar issues.

Hello EMForumers!

I live in Shelton, Washington USA. I have a 2016 Zero DSR. I would like to ride a Zero FXS off-road (nothing crazy or fancy, just want to kick up some dust). If you have a Zero FXS and would like to spend some time on a DSR off-road for a little bit, let me know. If we can meet up somewhere close, and swap some seat time that might be fun! Maybe a few of us electrons can get together and make a day of it. Saturdays are best for me, and I have a family, so some advanced notice would be ideal. Feel free to shoot any questions or topics of discussion. Looking forward to hearing from you guys. :)

[Mods, if there is a better part of the board to post this, please feel free to move it. This just seemed like the most appropriate area. Thanks]

Cheers,
pinaero

General Discussion / Hi, this is me
« on: April 14, 2016, 07:28:39 AM »
Hello!

I am a normal dude in a little old town. I live in Shelton, Washington. I work in IT.

Big fan of electric vehicles. Previous LEAF owner. Had high interest in the Model 3, but got tired of waiting, so decided to pull the trigger on my Zero DSR thanks to mistasam sharing his experience with his Zero SR and how much he loved that.

So... yep. There you have it. I am not a spambot. Please don't ban me. :P

Pics and Vids / 2016 Zero DSR - California Dreaming

Greetings forumers,

Here is one of my early rides on my DSR.

In this video I was still learning the bike, and learning some basics about riding. This is my first bike, so I have little to no riding experience.

Enjoy.

Hello again,

In this video I see how far I can ride on a single charge, without shutting the bike off, in a variety of road types.

Hope you enjoy!
