UPDATE: Here is the email I just received back from Richard at eKRAD.

Evan,

our target figure is a price of 10000 + tax. So, a s long as the Euro is strong, US pricing will become not very cheap but it's not possible better.

Best regards,
Richard Schmid

10000 works out to be... about $13,616.72 US Dollars.

That bike appears to be a really great balance between power and weight, bicycle and motorcycle.  I like it a lot!

I could easily see this taking the place of the scooter as the ride of choice for college kids.  Depending on price and how quickly they can bring it down.  I assume it will start out fairly expensive as most electrics are.

I have an email in to SEV regarding US-specific pricing and availability. Once I hear back from them I'll be sure to post the info. :)

This is the reply that I received back from Anke:

Hi Evan!

At the moment we are in contact with several interested parties and we try to find out who would be the best partner for ELMOTO.

So first of all we would like to get as much information as possible from the distributors...

- Where are they located?
- Why would they like to become a distributor?
- How big is the company?
- What kind of company is it?
- What do they sell?

Best regards
Anke

I had sent an email to eKRAD yesterday regarding the release of the eKRAD in the US. Here's the email that I got back from them this morning:
Quote
Hello Evan,

we have several inquiries from US distributors, who'd like to import the eKrad. However, we haven't started the series production yet, because we are still changing setups and components until the bike fulfills our expectations. This claims a lot of time, but it'll be worth it! We expect to have it ready by the end of the year.

Best regards,
Richard Schmid

I have emailed Richard again regarding US pricing. I will let everyone know when I hear back from them. :)

Hi Evan, thanks a lot for that information, great to know.  Surprise no one has jumped on US distributor role.

I have another email in to Anke, to find out what sort of requirements and qualifications they're looking for in a US Distributor. I'd love to be a distributor for them. I think the HR-2 would sell VERY well in the area that I currently reside.

ELMOTO Forum / ELMOTO HR-2 - Possible upgrades?
« on: May 05, 2009, 11:44:36 PM »
Can you all tell that I'm excited about the release of this bike?

I'm very curious to see if EnerTrac's MHM602 Hub Motor will work with the HR-2. The upgrade from the HR-2's 1.7kW continuous / 2kW peak output to the MHM602's 10kW continuous / 30kW peak output should make for a VERY interesting ride, I would think.

Anyway, here's the link to EnerTrac's MHM602: http://www.doingitall.net/EnerTrac/product.php#a

I guess first I'd have to figure out how to upgrade the HR-2's battery pack from 48V to 96V, LOL.

Hi, everyone!

A while back I had sent an inquiry to ELMOTO about the HR-2, curious of the price and release date. This is the response that I got back from them on April 29th:
Quote
Hi Evan,

Thanks a lot for your interest in ELMOTO!

The bikes will be available Summer 2009 (probably end of July). At the moment we are working hard to find distributors in the US. But even if there is no distributor, you will be able to place your order on our web shop starting May/June 2009.

The retail price is 3980€ incl. 19% German VAT and excluding shipping.

After I received that email, I sent them back another one, on April 30th, with the following:
Quote
Anke,

Thank you kindly for the quick response. Is that the US release date? Also, what would that price be in US Dollars?

Thanks again,
Evan Terrell

I received a reply back from Anke today, May 5th, with the following information:
Quote
Hi Evan,

according to www.xe.com 3980€ are 5329,75$.
I'm not sure if that will be the US price - so this is just an estimated price.

The release date is not yet fixed - as I said it will be probably end of July 2009.

But you can place your order in our webshop starting May/June 2009.

Best regards,
Anke

Home Brew / What kind of motor to use?
« on: April 24, 2009, 05:58:52 AM »
Hi everyone,

New here, first post. I'm planning on building an electric motorcycle - probably based on a Ninja 250R. The battery pack that I'm going to be using is the LiFePO4 variety, will be 96V / 20Ah, be approximately 12"x12"x7", and weigh approximately 45 Lbs.

What would be a good motor to use that has regen? Does anyone make a good brushless motor that has regen?

If possible, I'd like to get the range to about 75-100 Miles, and the top speed to about 100 MPH. If needed, I can always add a second 96V / 20Ah battery pack and run the two in parallel to get the extra juice needed.

Also, the spec on the 48V / 20Ah version of the battery pack is as follows:
    * Maximum discharge rate: 2C
    * Maximum charge current: 20A
    * Maximum burst of: 60A
    * Recommended charging rate: 0.3C

Thanks in advance, everyone!
