Zero Motorcycles is recalling 667 model year 2012-2013 XU, S, DS, and model year 2013 FX motorcycles.

The affected motorcycles have controller firmware that, as a result of certain system faults, may shut off power to the motor, possibly increasing the risk of a crash.

Zero will notify owners, and dealers will update the controller firmware, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in mid-January 2014.

Owners may contact Zero at  1-888-786-9376.

Thanks for informing us.

But it is curious! the 2012 got a sevcon update in 2012 and all newer sevcons should come with the new firmware.

I believe 667 Models are not all 2012-2013. So if the firmware has changed in 2013 -> ALL 2012 would need an update ???

I wonder if  on the 2012, the last  firmware version is still: July 2013 version or if they made another more up to date firmware since the last service bulletin?

Well, the last time my firmware was updated was in July 2012 and except for the occasional morning startup glitch, my bike has been running perfectly.  Maybe the new firmware will resolve that issue.    ???

I guess we now know how many Zeros have been made since 2012.  I really wonder what the number is for the Brammo Empulse.  Apparently one internet news report claimed that Brammo had received 4000 orders for the Empulse, but I'll bet the number of actual sales were a lot less than that.     ::)

I'm interested in how many Empulse's are on the streets, too.  It was my understanding that there are dozens, not hundreds, of Empulses on the streets.  But I just checked a recall notice from July 2013 saying potentially 605 Brammo Empulse bikes were affected.  That seems high to me.

I agree.  There certainly doesn't seem all that many Empulse (and Enertia, for that matter) owners that post on the Brammo Owners forum.  Some days it doesn't get a single post.   ???

I wonder if the Sevcons on Brammo are affected? I guess I'll find out shortly :)

As far as the number of Brammos on the road.... a forum is nowhere close to reflecting (even estimating) how many Empulses there are on the road. I know several Empulse owners in my area that just don't do forums, or they lurk. There've been several others besides the ones I know that have been sold in the area too, and AFAIK, they don't post either.

Case and point, I've only seen Two Zero motorcycles in the Portland area in my life. One was a 2009 dirtbike that my Buddy's friend owns, the other being a dealer model on the floor. If we count Zero owners on the forum, there's maybe 30 or so Zero owners in the world.
