Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Another Premature Belt Failure
« on: March 23, 2019, 09:11:17 AM »
After 3 years of experience with different ZEROs, our conclusions are:

- wear is 1st depending on the throttle use. SR/DSR using full torque, narrow belt, last 10K km, S with eco ride last 25K km

- we haven't change any wide belt yet, low mileage. Sure it will last more..

- as we have very short highways, steady speed is not common, plus more dust so no narrow belt can last 40K km.

- I suggest any owner with no dealer nearby to get one spare belt. Changing it is not very complex, about 1 hour because of the swingarm removal.

Totally agree, after 5 years of stability in design, the SR/F is opening a new era for the brand. So many differences, I understand why it was impossible to visit the factory months ago !!
it  needs a different folder.

Hi Erasmo,

With the wider belt you should be OK for 15 000 miles, unless you do a lot of offroad.
Bring one spare belt and one on board charger. This part is more vulnerable in tropical climate.
But check about warranty if not voided because of the export.

Quite interesting, specially for belts of MY16 and before.
Being able to change and return home even on eco mode, can change the mindset specially for agressive riding style, breaking their belt bellow 10 000km, and so in need of truck transport..

Definitely agree with the more precise feeling with the left hand, specially on dirt, slippery trails. The thing is more "moto culture" against "scooter & bicycle culture".  But as early adapters are more flexible regarding culture, another new step is easier!

As some of our dreams for 2017 became real (wider belts/locks on tanks/better paint) so may some of our  dreams for MY18 take the same way !

- 7.5 and 15Kwh capacities at same weight as no improvement this year
- on board 2Kw chargers
- parking brake on when lowering side stand
- left hand regen brake (no action on pads, just more regen, switching stop light too)
- 160 rear tire
- noise of your choice bellow 30Km/h (requirement by NHTSA before September 1st, 2019, so for MY18 switchable)
- reverse mode < 5km/h for easier parking
- shorter turning radius
- USB port in all front storage
- Full LED lights option

AND 2 totally new models :

Enduro/MX model: R engine with better suspension, more travel, exterior quick charger, chain kit, 120Kg max, 2hours of action

Commuter : eq 125cc (car license in European countries), more scooter like, with windshield and fairing , with bigger storage  to fit 1 jet helmet  in the tank area  (battery not as high, 10Kwh is enough)+ smaller storage under seat (14" or 15" wheels to get space),  BUT good handling to step on Tmax and C evolution huge market.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Handlebar question
« on: May 17, 2017, 08:00:26 AM »
We use DS handlebar on our S/SR, with risers. We shorten the handlebar 2cm each end.
Better look and better position, of course it is a point of view..

Another reason why ZERO improved considerably their sales in 2016 is the introduction of the 2 models (FXS and S) enabling car driving license to ride without the pricy and difficult moto license (continuous 11KW/ top speed 130Km/h). Equivalent 125cc, but like the C EVO, much much more torque than any 125cc!

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Replacement handlebars for SR
« on: December 03, 2016, 10:47:49 AM »
We replace the SR handlebar by a DS handlebar, shortened by 1" on each side, and it looks much more "modern", to us at least! Many "naked bike fans"do not appreciate the bending of the S/ SR handlebar.
What is good also is that you still have your ZERO logo on the handlebar, factory look, not aftermarket

Hi Andrea,

you can get real enduro/MX tires  from Pirelli (genuine brand for ZERO) even in these sizes:

https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-ww/motorcycle/all-tyres/sheet/scorpion-rally#/size-range

You will have better handling / traction on trails, but much poorer on street than stock.
But I would recommand only if you use your bike on trails/dirt surface more than 2/3 of the time ... Which is not DS/DSR program at first...

Thank you for that!

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / FRONT LIGHT BEAM SETTING
« on: October 01, 2016, 10:09:59 AM »
Does anyone know how to lower the beam of the front light?
Now that we put LED on front, it is too high . So with 2 on board, hi beam is pointing above the road!
Only way we found is to enlarge the holes of the horizontal lower bracket.

The shortened (1" on each side) DS handlebar, with 1" risers works really good! The shape is far better (to us), and on top of that you have the zero logo on it...

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Wrenching
« on: August 01, 2016, 08:26:56 AM »
By wrenching, what do you mean? If it's about changing wheels, handlebars, shocks, brakes or appearance, I'm almost sure you're fine wrenching, even if the warranty can be voided when not done by your dealer.
If it is getting in the motor/ BMS / charger/ power module, you can easily understand that this is not conventionnal mechanic.  On top of the high tech aspect, there are a lot of patents that ZERO HQ don't want to disclose, even to dealers. The motor for example is sealed for everybody, except the factory.

General Discussion / Re: Future Zero rider in Paris, France
« on: May 29, 2016, 05:10:14 AM »
Salut Corentin,
The best thing is to ride the S first because, if you find it small (it is a fun but small bike!) regarding your size, then the DS will fit. The tires are not a problem, you can put road tires next. The geometry and comfort on all kind of roads will be simlar to your BMW..  13K  is an asset for resell. 9.8 are OK for less than 150K a day, unless you have "multiple base" to recharge during the day". Good ride!
