Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / 2012 Zero XU "Glitch"
« on: July 31, 2013, 05:51:14 PM »
So there is the official recall for the 2012 S/DS "glitch" motor controller issue. No mention of the 2012 XU though.

Guess what happened while commuting this morning... odd noise/pulsing for about 1KM, I shut it down and inspected for anything odd, powered it back up and continued, then 1KM later the power cut out completely while riding through a corner. I've notified both Zero and Transport Canada.

It seems like one thing after another with this bike. Has anyone else experienced the "glitch" with an XU? I think vchampain mentioned it...

So, it continues: After about 60 miles of trouble-free riding after the faulty BMS replacement another error code and bike disable happened this morning. The flashing pattern of 1-2 on the dashboard, textual description of "Charger Connected" and solution "Unplug Charger" in the owner's manual. I'm not an idiot, the bike was unplugged.

Has this happened to anyone else yet? If so, what was the solution?

First thing I'll try when I get home is disconnect the green connecter from the charger to the power pack to see if that eliminates the error code. I suppose another phone call to Zero Warranty/Tech Support is in order...

Tried to do the first ride of the season this afternoon, put the battery in the XU and connected the wiring. Had the battery connected to the charger for storage in accordance with Zero's instructions. Key in the "on" position, notice the exclamation mark warning indicator flashing in a pattern. 2 blinks, pause, then 4 blinks. This doesn't look good:

Cause: Battery Management System (BMS) Throttle Disable
Solution: Contact Zero or your dealer.

First year of the two-year warranty runs out soon  :'(

The charger is doing an odd pattern too, it looks like it thinks the battery is charged, the 100% charge LED is lit solid, then it changes to the 80% charge LED flashing, so the charger and BMS are balancing or the BMS stopped charging because one or more of the cells has reached maximum voltage.

The BMS indicators on the rear of the pack looks like all is normal...

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / ECO vs SPORT modes
« on: July 31, 2012, 07:06:26 AM »
Has anyone done any comparison between ECO and SPORT mode from a fuel efficiency standpoint?

I've commuted with both, for the most part I was using ECO mode, Wh/KM was between 45-47. The past two commutes were in SPORT mode and the Wh/KM is around 43. It might not sound like much, but it's roughly 48 KM round trip commute, so I have a bit more "in reserve". I kept the speeds the same, but SPORT accelerates better. Furthermore, the SPORT mode is much more enjoyable than ECO, motor responsiveness is markedly increased.

Anyone else?

Just thought I'd post any oddities found on my XU. It's technically a parts bin special, and the S/N is "15" (within the first run of XU's for 2012) so there's bound to be some. So far there's this:

Advertised XU metal dash panel with the performance switch showing (eco/sport) (pics online, in the X/XU Owner's Manual):

Hope this doesn't conflict with forum rules, I'm not gaining anything from posting it but perhaps saving another Canadian some money...

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / 2012's and 12 Volt Accessories
« on: February 16, 2012, 07:55:45 AM »
Has anyone with a 2012 checked to see if there's an easy way to tap into the 12 volt system for running accessories (i.e. heated grips are nice, uses under 50W typically) ?
