Pan America Pannier (luggage) rack on the LiveWire
« on: September 23, 2022, 06:33:31 AM »

I was able to fit the Pan America Luggage Rack on the Livewire. I'll post pictures once the project is complete!

I watched your series on tripping with the livewire the other day, hoping to see a detailed description on how you were attaching your luggage, but unfortunately you didn't include anything like that.  I can appreciate how much work you've put into putting these side racks on, but they're sitting really high it looks like.  I imagine the livewire would be better suited to using a waterproof rackless system designed for dualsport adventure bikes or dirtbikes if you don't want to worry about rain covers.  Something like the Mosko moto reckless 80 (though it's about $1000 as well), or the Giantloop Siskiyou panniers look like they might work without side racks to support them, as would the coyote saddle bag.  There's also the Altrider Hemisphere and the Enduristan Blizzard.  edit: traditional panniers should all work pretty well with the metal supports seen in the last picture attachement to prevent any flopping into the rear wheel area... the other rackless type bags probably wouldn't need side support, but might need some way to attach the tension straps to the very rear of the seat...

While I was looking around just now I also found pics of 2 different livewires, a white one and a black one, using the same saddle bags apparently without racks on this facebook page by a guy who rode a livewire from Mexico to Canada:

Here's a link to the black bike pic:

The white bike with floppy bags and a bicycle onboard:

And finally here's how they're supporting the bags to prevent flopping into the rear wheel (I tried downloading this pic and attaching it):

Here's rear view of the "motocentric" bags.  On the livewire, these bags don't look half bad, but I doubt they're waterproof:

EDIT: That facebook group has several posts about how they're working on producing those bags and selling them through a community store...  in one post they say there's 30l capacity and a load capacity of 3kg per bag.

Another alternative to the Harley adventure saddle bags at a fraction of the price are the nelson rigg waterproof saddle bags. There's the Hurricane Dry saddlebags or the slightly less expensive Sierra Dry saddlebags, which I've used for a couple years.  They both look to have similar amounts of required strapping as the harley ones to secure them.

Another option as well that's very similar to the Mosko Moto reckless 80L, at lower prices, are the Tusk Highland X2 or Excursion rackless systems:
