Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: 70% SoC's challenge !
« on: August 17, 2019, 03:57:24 AM »
I've known for years that my 2014 SR will never display 81%. I've watched it jump from 82 directly to 80. I'm not sure about 91, but I think that gets skipped, too. I do know that I have seen 71%.

The DSR skipped every 20 (81, 61, 41, 21).  I've not been paying attention on the SR/F yet, too busy holding on!

Steve

Seems like all models before SR/F never had this five numbers (don't forget the 1 ; 21 ; 41 ; 61 ; 81).

On the SR/F the only missing one i found for now is the 70...

I'd love to have an explanation for that, as it must be a reason !
I never knew about the 5 numbers I know for sure mine skips 41 and 61 nearly every ride, will have to look over some of my fxs ride videos and check for the others.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: FX 7.2 Range Discussion
« on: July 08, 2019, 11:08:33 PM »
Have been tracking my rides for my 2017 fxs 6.5 back to early 2017 I have a lot of data saved. Not fx 7.2 but just sharing that wind, outdoor temperature, tire pressure, riding position and how i'm being with throttle control greatly affect my rides.  like for all my tracked rides I try to ride each consistantly at the same speeds while not ever using more than 2 bars on power and 2 bars on torque I can usually  have 1 bar power and 2 bars torque  but if torque is flickering 3 bars I let off so torque only has 2 bars. The 2 bars each only seems to work up to 50 mph I pretty much have to get into 3 bars on torque to maintain speeds above 50. If im getting 3 bars on torque going to be down on battery meter at the end of ride.  Most all my longer tracked rides are up to 50 mph. For 1 of my rides 43 miles done in very similar conditions 78- 85 degrees 2-7 mph winds I should consistantly end the ride at 26% battery left. This ride has 30 35 40 45 and 50 mph parts. I have data points or waypoints along the route basically street signs I check my battery state of charge and range at. So for example at 14.7 miles 45th &stubbs I should be at 77% at 24.1 miles at 89th and stubbs I should be at 68% . Only works If I follow the exact same route and ride it exactly the same way each time and with the same conditions like temperature and wind. I set A to range and B is set to Trip 2 thats all I use no app just the dash.  battery meter, speedometer, range and Trip 2.  Many rides readings recorded with gopro or just an audio recorder and rever for tracking were I rode. So for me 6'4 230 things that affect my rides most tire pressure, outdoor temperature under 73 degrees and i get 22% or lower for my 43 mile ride. Wind over 7 mph  and I can have below 22% for my 43 mile ride. Mostly it's how smooth and consistant I am with throttle control not getting into 3 bars on torque. I only ride this way for rides i'm tracking ride the same route  any other time and it's all over the place, i'm just enjoying the ride i'm not tracking and riding smooth.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: How reliable is a Zero FX from 2017?
« on: October 02, 2018, 08:47:52 AM »
I wanted a 2016 fxs and had a chance to get1 at a pretty good price but decided to go ahead and get the 2017 fxs because of improvements like new motor, wider belt, single long brick battery option and supposedly fixed the over heating issue  the 2016 had. Now the 2018 has even better improvements.
All that said I love my 2017 fxs not that much difference from the fx, tires and suspension set up a little different maybe a few other minor things, I have just under 5000 miles on mine I ride it a lot it's the 6.5 single brick. I had 1 problem had onboard charger failure it was replaced at no cost they even picked the bike up and delivered  it when done no charge for anything and I live 1 1/2 hours from my dealer Letco Cycles those guys are awsome
This was really a minor thing but when the bike was new it came from zero with way to much belt tension, I rode it around and it was just making a lot of noise checked belt and way to tight I had some odd marks on the belt so called my dealer they offered to bring it in and replace it or ship me a new belt I had them ship me new  1 at no cost. saved it for a extra and adjusted the original belt to the new specs and bikes been quiet ever sense  and still using the original belt, new 1 still hanging on the wall.
A second very minor thing was the terrible nasty metal grinding sound the rear brake made, as mentioned in a post on this site I replaced it with EBC Organic pads $20 noise is gone and these felt much better over oem to me.
The belt and rear brake pads taken care of when bike had under 40 miles on it early 2017, the failed charger was early march 2018.
I have had 0 other issues , love the bike, put new tires on it not long ago but ride it so much gonna need a new pair next year. I'm 6'4 220  my daily trips are part town 40-45 mph but with mostly 50 and 55 mph around 43 miles 22-26% battery left.

I live about 10 minutes from Letko, those guys seem pretty awesome. I've ridden several Zero's there and definitely have the itch. Really glad to hear their service is good, i'm looking at picking up a 2019 fxs from them once they are announced. I'm surprised your at ~26% after only 43 miles.. maybe your having too much fun on it  :D
I have a hard time keeping out of the throttle way to much fun  :)

thanks, I have revised the connector a little more it now has m5 nylon bolts cut to just short little stubbs between each copper lug so no chance of them moving and the whole thing will be protected with some 3" heatshrink when done, might even have the whole setup in a nice really well ventilated box of some sort. I did get 2 8 AWG wires on 1 lug just had to keep installing 1 wire at a time and tighten the screw smashing the wire until both wires would fit, smash cram smash cram smash cram.  i'll get a pic of that loaded up soon i'm still sick and I am intalling a 240v  breaker sub panel with 3 double 15 amp breakers. 1 to each flatpack and 1 for the on board charger got a Tripp-Lite C-13 to 5-15p 14 AWG 15A going to cut the 5-15p and hook up to my sup panel .
COLD 28 F want to RIDE it my birthday and I'm sick

Hi will, having the pcb made with 2oz copper makes the thickness of the pcb half thickness of 1oz. The pcb fits very loosely and having bad contact.
Then I was having trouble getting 8 awg wire on it, the 2oz copper might have been ok but it's just foil and very very thin. I had planned to add more copper to
them either soldier some copper bar or copper wire directly to them thats why 1 photo a page back shows were I removed material to expose the full length of the
copper.
I have only 2 of these flatpack chargers, each is connected it's own separate power input 240v with nothing else on those circuits.
The outputs to the motorcycles battery are connected together at the 2 pcb's I made, positive to positive and negative to negative, I still have not tried
charging with them connected together yet, been sick and to cold.

Gave up on the Osh Park PCB, even with 2oz copper just not enuff so I made my own. It's a work in progress still but will take 6-14 AWG wire, I can get 2 8 AWG onto 1 lug for connecting the flatpacks but it's difficult. They are panduit cd35-36sl-qy, 2 hole mechanical lugs 600v 50 amps. mounted to 1/8 thick FR4 unclad PCB material. The middle lug has to have some thin plastic or something on top between the ground and can connections I'm still working that out. Not sure if it's needed but I have seen schottky diodes mentioned in several of the diy flatpack charger threads so thought it would not hurt to add some so i'm putting 1 across the plus & minus outputs on both of the connectors I made. And the 10 ton hydraulic crimper I used for my Anderson SBS75X connector. Got it on ebay, some come with 8 set's or 9 set's of dies this 1 has 9 set's and includes the 8 AWG die. The #10 die was used on the black 8 AWG and left nice flat crimp the #8 die was used on the red 8 AWG and left a curved crimp. Also used 10 AWG Turnigy silicone wire  with Anderson pp45 connectors for input and Acer superworm 8 AWG silicone wire for the outputs. For extra safety i'm probably going to put something between each of the lugs maybe a small nylon bolt so they can't touch if they did happen to move a little, also have some 3 1/2 inch heatshrink I could cover the hole thing with.

yep it's not bad for being free it's a little off but every voltmeter I have gives a different reading. if I put 113 in the sketch I get 114 from the voltmeter so what ever I want my flatpack to be at  I just have to make sure I enter something a volt lower in the sketch  :)

9
A few of the items I got.  some Turnigy 10 AWG for the 240v input and some 8 AWG silicone wire for output to the Anderson SBS75x and some OshPark PCB connectors. Still working out how i'm
going to get that wire on these pcb's.  On these pcb's the + and - are reversed and there is a 4th solder pad at the top, I just ignore these and make the correct connection for this charger. These
Pcb's have Oshpark's double amount of copper 70um instead of the 35um.

Got a few more things in the mail today decided to get  my 2 chargers out and start tinkering with them. I'm still waiting on a wire crimper and I did get my voltage set on both supplies to 112. It's just a starting point, I can always adjust it as needed. Has anyone else gotten any further with their charging setups we need some pictures in here.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Motor Noise & Display 2017
« on: November 03, 2017, 04:32:14 AM »
My 17 FXS made same noise and it was most noticeable accelerating from a stop even more noticeable at low speed corners corners were worst even embarrassing. Adjusting belt tension greatly improved
it, factory setting was to high to even show on my gates crikit gauge this was with 4 miles on the bike. Adjusting mine to the lower end of the setting made it better my belt was also badly out of alignment.
Just pushing the bike around was enuff to hear the belt rubbing against the rib of the rear sprocket, could actually see the edge of the belt binding on that lip and raising up on it.
After inspection of the belt it was replaced at no cost, had damage all along the side that was binding against that lip. With a new belt and properly aligned and correct tension still makes noise exactly like
in your video, just at 3000 miles it's almost completely quite now.

Thanks I just have 2 of these flatpack2 2000, because they are long and a bit heavy I plan to just use them at home using 240v.

most of the rides with my FXS use only down to 60% soc and take 3-4 hrs to get back to 100%. But all the rides I would rather do get down around
15-25% soc and take 8+ hrs to get back to 100% and limit me to 1 ride a day. And thats ok because I was in a accident severeal years ago and
cant ride long anymore this is why I got the FXS with the smaller battery and lower price. but it will be nice to be able to quickly charge up
and go riding again if I wanted to.

Good to see you got it figured out. my 2 arrived today, purchased the hobbytronics arduino leonardo now i just need get everything else for these.  Got them for my 17 FXS 6.5 non modular
wanted 3 but read somewhere in 1 of the several eltek flatpack threads 3 plus the onboard might be to much for the FXS 6.5 so i have 2.

Oh, and speaking of ZEROCOOL, have you seen Zero Below Zero?

It's a blog and a book about cold weather riding with a Zero.
not sure but I have seen maybe on youtube or somewhere about somone testing a Zero FX in Duluth Mn and I lived
in Minnesota years ago, some friends and I used to go to Duluth in winter to race RC cars. Years ago  ;D
The Aerostitch folks equipped it with studded tires and a battery heater (and of course, a chrome skull with lighted red eyes) and took turns riding it all winter.

yep I remember it now..they made a battery heater like in their jackets kept the bike outside and never washed it.

General Discussion / Re: Going down
« on: October 24, 2017, 04:04:27 AM »
Hi, I have an FXS and tho I have not dropped it I do get surprised from time to time, does have some decent torque in sport mode. Going threw turns I have broke the rear tire loose a few times while giving a little extra throttle mid threw or exiting the turn. Havn't gone down but surprised me sliding more than I was comfortable with this motorcycle sliding, It still was holding or trying to keep traction while the tire was spinning and sliding so the tires were resisting completely loosing  grip... think of pushing a good gummy eraser it doesn't just slide easily.
Just a week ago it's tiny torque surprised me again, was at a stop light and when it turned green I took off smooth and easy then about middle of the intersection got a little to much in the throttle and the front wheel came up about a foot... there is a slight hump in that area of the intersection.
