I’m sure I just need to disassemble & clean contacts but would appreciate any tips/techniques.

I can only say that the bolts holding the switchgear enclosure together are Torx TT20 which is pretty specific:

Applying some dielectric grease should help, hopefully.

If you find anything unusual let us know. I rarely operate my mode switch.
