Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / New Zero S on the market
« on: July 30, 2015, 03:35:34 AM »
I traded in my 2013 Zero S today. My dealer is moving out of town and since I'm not an electric motorcycle guru like the rest of you, I decided to trade it in. Anyway af1 racing where I bought it now has it. I assume it will be for sale. The bike is in perfect condition and has 10,350 miles on the odo. I replaced the rear tire at 7600 miles. It had the recall firmware and that's about it. I kept the bike in eco with max regen with off throttle and braking so the brakes are hardly used. Anyway, someone in the Austin area could probably pick up a nice Zero S. af1 is opening a new store in N. Austin. I traded it in on a 2016 GTV300 Vespa. Those I can do the work on myself or I can ride the bike either into San Antonio or Austin for service. The Zero would be out of range of either Zero dealers...even one way, so unless Zero gets the range up to 150 miles highway, I will probably not be buying another Zero. Anyway, I will check back from time to time to check on topics of interest and learn about the new bikes from Zero.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / motorcycle trailers
« on: July 27, 2015, 10:12:59 PM »
My Zero S weighs 355 lbs. I am shopping for a motorcycle hitch or trailer and was hoping to get a hitch that wouldn't require yearly $45 registration for trailer plates...maybe one of those that cantilevers off your hitch, but those all seem to load with a small ramp where you walk along side the bike and that looks too dangerous. I could just rent a U-haul trailer too. Any recommendations? I was thinking of doing some track days.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Brammo's big sale
« on: August 25, 2014, 10:48:01 PM »
Apparently Brammo is offering some fairly significant price reductions on 2013 and 2014 bikes....$7,000 off the regular price of the 2013 Empulse R, and $5,000 off the 2014s. The fact they even have new 2013s is probably an indication sales are not where they would like to be. Still, $11,995 vs $18,995 is a huge price reduction. I think this answers the question about if the price of electric bikes is negotiable too.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2015 Zeros
« on: July 24, 2014, 09:40:19 AM »
Is it too early to be thinking about new bikes? What would you like to see changed or improved in the 2015 Zeros? Are there any rumors floating around?

Range, acceleration, charging times, top speed, sustained speed, weight, air cooled vs. liquid cooled, gears vs. twist & go, options, tires, suspension, price, are always topics of interest.

My dream bike would be an electric version of the Grom, but this bike would weigh in at 300 lbs. or so, have 12-in wide tires, 11.4 battery, yet still be capable of say 80 mph sustained, 90 mph+ top speed. There would be added range based on less weight alone. Compared to the Grom this bike would have to have better everything...better suspension, brakes, and a softer seat for sure. If that isn't possible, a little tweaking of the S to make it slightly lighter and give it slightly better acceleration would be just fine for an improvement.

The SR is too heavy for me and the FX and DS have seats that are too tall, so I won't comment on those.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / I got carried away
« on: March 22, 2014, 02:45:25 AM »
Gorgeous riding weather today, so I headed over to Canyon Lake, then to the Devil's Backbone to do the 13 curves. It was so much fun, I turned around and did it again. Then I looked at my charge and I was less than half. Oh well, one more pass, actually two since I had to turn around and head back. To make a long story short, I ran out of battery for the first time ever, 200 yards from home but was able to just sit on the bike and push myself home. Now I know exactly how much distance I can get once all the bars disappear. 2 miles was it for my bike after the final visible bar. I was thinking there would be more warning. The only thing I noticed was a lack of throttle response, followed by the bike shutting off after another 10 seconds. Somehow I had the idea it would react differently...slow you way down to a creep and let you go another few miles. Doesn't work that way, I found out.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Now that the new specs are in....

Are you planning to buy a Zero R? Why or why not? Me? Probably not, because of the  added weight.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / New electric bikes?
« on: November 02, 2013, 10:46:35 PM »
http://green.autoblog.com/2013/10/30/suzuki-extrigger-concept-makes-a-monkey-of-electric-motorcycles/  I own a Grom and this was posted on a Grom forum. The 136 lbs. would make this bike a blast. The actual Honda Grom weighs in at 225 lbs. wet.  Note the wheel base of 37.8 inches. The Zero S wheel base is 56.6 inches and the Grom has a wheel base of 47.2. This Suzuki would be tiny. Front and back disc brakes suggest it might go 40-50 mph though.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / warning lights from moisture.
« on: August 17, 2013, 08:11:50 PM »
Yesterday, I set out to go order some motorcycle parts and got stuck on the way back in a 15 min. hard rain. First thing I did when I got home was wash the dirt that had accumulated on the bike using a garden hose. Then I dried everything with microfiber towels. The roads were now completely dry and it was sunny, so I left my 2013 S out in the sun, moved it a couple of times so the sun could get things dried out, and put a fan on it for another hour or so. Everything looked dry. When I booted up, the green go light flashed on an off, and I got two red warning lights that also flashed on and off the same time as the green go light...the system warning and the heat warning. No way was anything hot, just still some moisture somewhere. Anyway both in the rain and with these warnings, the bike operated normally, so I rode to dinner...and parked in the sun. Same thing with the 3 flashing lights when I left, but I thought I would ride some to air it out some more. After about 5 more miles of riding, the flashing ceased and the solid green go light  stayed on and everything is back to normal. Apparently my Zero does not like to take a bath.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Cooling down your motor and battery.
« on: June 28, 2013, 12:12:30 AM »
Texas summer is becoming brutal. Over 100 F today. I don't ride in the daytime in these temps, but I often ride in the mornings and late afternoon when the sun is low. Still my motor and battery become hot especially if I ride at freeway speeds which is often. This concerns me. What I have been doing is using a floor fan to cool off the motor and battery by pointing it toward the motor from the rear right of the bike. It cools off the motor and battery quickly. After about 10 min, I plug in the charger and continue to cool the battery with the fan through the charging cycle from 30 min. to 6 hours. Otherwise it can get very hot. Anyone else using fans or some other method to cool off your bikes? Has anyone got their bike so hot that it shut down or nearly down on you? So far I have seen the flashing red temp icon twice and slowed down immediately with no automatic safeguards kicking in. Has anyone burned out a motor or suspected heat damage to the battery pack?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Any idea how many 2013 Zero S's?
« on: June 20, 2013, 02:29:54 AM »
I'm curious how many 2013 Zero S models have been sold in the US?

Not very likely to do that, but was wondering if that is doable?
