Agility Saietta with Gearbox?
« on: September 12, 2012, 07:34:50 PM »

For those of you following the developments of the UK based Agility Saietta developments:
Today it was announced that they won a contest which included some funding to research a gearbox for their great looking bike.

Are they infected with the Brammo Empulse virus or are gears really the way to go?

Only time will tell.  But manufacturing a new motorcycle gearbox has been the downfall of more than one motorcycle company.  My recollection is that Indian had gearbox problems on their vertical twins that helped to put them under.  BMW has had flat-twin gearbox reliability problems over the years, the latest about 8 years ago that caused them to switch their gearbox manufacturer to another supplier.  And of course, gearbox failures were the major issue that put a new British V-twin manufacturer (something like Hesketh) into an early grave during the early 1980's.
