General Discussion / Air-Powered motorcycle

I just stumbled upon Dean Bensteads 02 Persuit, a dirt bike driven by the power of the contents of a scuba tank, air. A prototype, of course, but - WOW!

http://o2pursuitdeanbenstead.wordpress.com/

It looks really simple as and should be relatively cheap to mass produce. We all know the batteries are expensive on the e-bikes. Given the air bike take regular unmodified scuba tanks getting a "reserve battery" will be some $150 from e-bay.

What do you think, or do you have any more information/knowledge on this? Can't find anything on further development of this specific bike.

It seems to have all the possibilities to make a really cheap community bike.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2014 models
« on: April 02, 2013, 07:26:32 PM »
I know this is way early to start a topic about next years model range, but I just can't help it. I just recently took the decision to postpone the buying of a zero until next year. It's frustrating but I'll try comforting myself by looking forward of having a 2014 FX instead.

If you don't mind, lets speculate about coming 2014 models:

What will happen with the current range, S, DS, FX, MX, XU?
The model range seems solid to me, I see no need to introduce a new model (for the adult market, but maybe a junior MX) and the MX, FX and DS can continue to coexist.

What does zero needs to update/change?
They introduced their own sealed motor this year - what will be next step? Gearing? Some kind of 2-speed, high-low gears or will they keep it direct? ABS on S/DS?

Batteries - what can be expected of batteries in the same price range as of today?

Also, - what do you want/hope to see in next years model range?

Comes with folding pedals if stranded  - Imagine wearing the leather and full helmet using the pedals on this one ;)

Claims to to be registration free thanks to the pedals. I know this wouldn't be the case in Sweden, and I doubt rest of Europe.. This, however, is probably a good thing.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / FX - 2.8 vs 5.7
« on: October 17, 2012, 09:14:14 PM »
Hi,
first time poster - long time lurker from Sweden here.

I'm curious about the specifications of the FX and the difference between the two battery configurations.

Version
Torque
Power
2.870 ft-lb (95Nm) | 27hp (20kW)
5.770 ft-lb (95Nm) | 44hp (33kW)

It says both  have the same torque, but the 2.8 have almost half the power.

Obviously I'm not an expert on this, but isn't that a contradiction? I would think less power would give less tourque.
How would one experience the difference (acc, wheelies, uphill etc)?

Thank you
