You can access the BMS via the round multi-pin connector at the back of the battery box, at least that's where it is on the 2011 S. I think you need TerraTerm or similar hyper terminal software to read it. If you do a google search or similar you may find the threads in this forum or endlesssphere where doctorbass and others posted about accessing the BMS data.

I am looking at converting my 2011 S to Nissan Leaf modules. Looks like you could fit 7 modules in the original Zero battery box, as seen in this post here http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=4498.0
From my rough calcs I think you could possibly even fit 8 in the stock Zero battery box. If you remove the delta charger and make a custom battery box then you could fit 11 modules. You could then fit 3 on top under a custom made 'tank' to make up a 14 Leaf module battery, which should get you a range of over 100km.
If you have a big enough 'tank' then you could fit 4 modules up top and then 10 in the battery box, giving room in the box for an onboard charger from Meanwell RSP power supplies.

Buy Sell Trade / Re: Older Zero Battery Pack Wanted to Buy (Molicel)
« on: March 30, 2015, 06:24:23 AM »
Hi Guys,

I am in Australia and might be in the market for a pack for a 2010.  I am south of Sydney so if they are near there, then let me know please. thanks.

Cam, I will be pulling the battery from my 2011 in the next month or so in order to fit the new Nissan Leaf pack. The 2011 cells will be compatible with the 2010 charger and BMS.
PM me if you're interested.

Buy Sell Trade / Re: Accessories For Sale - For 2012 Zero S/DS

If you post the specifications for the chargers then you may have more luck in selling them as at the moment only people who have a 2012 Zero are likely to look, but there are probably people out there looking for a charger for a 72V system. Just a thought.

Tech Help / Re: Controllers: speed control vs torque control
« on: March 27, 2015, 05:27:16 PM »
The 2011 Zero uses the Main Bike Board (MBB) to filter the throttle signal before it enters the Alltrax controller.
If you read through some of the threads in the '2012 and earlier Zero' section of this forum you will find posts by Electric Cowboy and Doctorbass where they talk about changing the throttle mapping via programming the MBB. In that software you can change the control from speed to torque or both and the upper/lower limits and ramp rates, etc.

If you don't have a Zero MBB then you could use a Throttle Tamer or Picoamps throttle filter module to convert your throttle signal so that it acts more like a current/power/torque control rather than a voltage/speed control.

description of operation here http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51460
I have purchased one of these to install on the ZEV 7100 LR as the throttle on that is speed control and acts like WOT until it gets to the speed you set with the throttle and so is very jerky and not very nice when compared to my Zero electric bike or my Yamaha MT-07 ICE bike.

You could try building your own throttle tamer if you can solder a circuit or program an Arduino. http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=78&start=200

Doctorbass did have a heap of Zero parts or sale, including chargers, in this post here http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=2989.msg24428#msg24428

I just did a google search and came up with the spec's 58V 70Ah 4kW, but that is peak.
Looks very similar to the 2011 S battery box. if so then you could probably re-pack it with 7 Nissan Leaf battery modules to get 14s2p and 66Ah peak, that's if you can't revive the original battery.

There is a company in the UK that is re-packing the Zero battery box with new cells, http://electricmotorcycles.co.uk/on-road-street-electric-motorcycles/contact-electric-motorcycles/
And I guess Zero themselves would re-pack the battery also, but both of these options don't really help you in Brazil...

If you are up to re-packing the Zero battery yourself and wanted to stay with 60Ah then 7 Leaf modules (14s2p) should just fit width wise stacked in the original Zero battery box.

I am planning to upgrade my 2011 Zero to 14 x Nissan Leaf modules (14s4p) to get 120Ah battery pack, but this project is a little ways off yet and will need quite a few modifications to get it to fit, including a CBR600RR tank cover.

Parts, Mods And Hacks / Re: Combined Volt and Current Meter 120V 500A
« on: March 14, 2015, 03:52:22 AM »
It's a bit like a higher power version of the cheap Turnigy and GT Power wattmeter we use on the electric bicycles and RC hobby.

One thing to note, from the ones I looked at, is that they can derive the meter supply from the battery being tested as long as the battery voltage does not exceed 90V. If the battery peak voltage exceeds 90V then you need to use a separate supply for the meter or use a voltage divider circuit across the battery to supply the meter.

The lower current version makes a good addition to monitor your charger output

Thanks for that, but they don't give the Galfer part number for the Zero, the number they list there is for the brake pad compound for general street use.
The actual Galfer part numbers are FD094 rear, FD188 front
Ferodo part numbers FDB313 rear and FDB2190 front

I did find an ebay listing with Zero OEM pads, the part numbers were 25-0328601 for the rears.

No worries, glad to help.

Just be sure that while you have it apart you replace that 200A contactor with one rated for 400A! See this thread for details http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=3441.30

Oh, and some photos of your progress would be nice too!

I have scanned a copy of the Alltrax flow chart that the previous owner of my 2011 Zero S gave me from when he was fault finding a faulty contactor I think (which it still has!)
May help you and others.
The limit on attachments is 600kb, so PM me if you need a better copy.
